Recommended Office Chairs for Hemorrhoids Patients

Admin October 09, 2026

When selecting office chairs for hemorrhoids patients, it is recommended to prioritize chairs that are moderately firm, with a seat surface that is neither too hard nor too soft, and offers good support, such as hard sponge chairs or ergonomic office chairs. Specific choices should be based on the following core features:

1. Seat Surface Material and Hardness
The seat surface material should balance softness and support, with high-density sponge combined with breathable mesh fabric being an ideal choice. This type of material can disperse pressure on the buttocks through moderate sinking, preventing local blood circulation obstruction, while maintaining breathability to reduce irritation to the perianal skin caused by heat and moisture. Avoid overly hard materials (such as wooden stools) that directly press on the buttocks, or overly soft materials (such as sofas) that cause the body to sink and increase abdominal pressure. A moderately hard seat surface should sink slightly (about 2-3 centimeters) when sitting down and not collapse.

2. Seat Surface Shape and Angle
Prefer a slightly forward-tilted (5ยฐ-10ยฐ) seat surface design, which can naturally adjust the pelvic angle, reduce the contact area between the buttocks and the seat surface, and thus lower perianal pressure. If the chair seat is horizontal, an wedge-shaped cushion (higher at the front and lower at the back) can be used to manually adjust the angle to simulate a forward tilt. Avoid using a completely horizontal seat surface for long periods, as it may cause the body's center of gravity to shift backward, leading to a suspended waist and increased abdominal pressure.

3. Backrest and Lumbar Support
The backrest should conform to the natural curvature of the lumbar spine, with a curved backrest that fits the lumbar depression area, preventing the body from leaning forward due to a suspended waist. Prefer chairs with adjustable height and angle, such as those that can adjust the backrest tilt through a pneumatic rod (recommended range 90ยฐ-110ยฐ), or those with a lumbar support module that precisely supports the third to fourth lumbar vertebrae. Insufficient lumbar support can cause the core muscles to compensate and exert force, indirectly increasing abdominal pressure, which should be avoided.

4. Targeted Use of Auxiliary Cushions

  • Hollow/U-shaped cushions: These reduce perianal pressure directly through a hollow design in the middle, suitable for short-term use during acute hemorrhoids episodes, but note that long-term use may cause fatigue in the buttock muscles.
  • Memory foam cushions: Their slow rebound properties can evenly disperse pressure, suitable for patients with significant body size differences, but choose products with a density of โ‰ฅ45kg/mยณ to ensure support.
  • Gel cushions: Made of polymer gel material, their heat dissipation efficiency is 3-5 times that of ordinary sponge, suitable for summer or long sitting scenarios.
  • Wavy cushions: Their surface undulating structure promotes air circulation, but they should be paired with a non-slip bottom to prevent sliding.

Core reminder: Chair selection is only an auxiliary measure, and it should be combined with behavioral interventions such as getting up and moving every 30-50 minutes and performing three sets of pelvic floor muscle exercises (10-15 times per set) daily. If symptoms such as persistent bloody stools or perianal mass protrusion occur, seek medical attention immediately to rule out grade III or higher hemorrhoids or concurrent infection, and avoid delaying treatment.
