Heightened Caster Office Chair
Admin October 13, 2026
A heightened caster office chair can be achieved by replacing the wheels, adding heightening pads, using foot covers, using high-caster fixing devices, or adjusting the gas lift rod. Here are the specific methods:

1. Replace with larger-sized wheels
- Measure the original wheel size: After removing the caster, flip it upside down and measure the wheel diameter (common sizes are 5 cm, 6 cm, and 7.5 cm) to ensure the new wheel size matches.
- Confirm the wheel type:
- Snap-ring type: The wheel has an elastic snap-ring at its root, which is directly inserted into the chair leg hole. When installing, press firmly until you hear a 'click' sound.
- Threaded type: The wheel has screw threads and requires a wrench to unscrew the old wheel counterclockwise and tighten the new wheel clockwise for reinforcement.
- Purchase and installation: Select new wheels based on the original wheel size and type. For snap-ring types, use pliers or a screwdriver to pry out the old wheel; for threaded types, simply twist to replace.
2. Add heightening pads
- Material selection: Prioritize heightening pads made of EVA, PVC, or ABS materials, which offer both durability and slip resistance.
- Slip-resistant design: Choose models with slip-resistant textures on the surface to prevent the pad from sliding and causing the chair to become unstable.
- Installation method: Place the heightening pad directly under the chair legs, ensuring full contact with the legs to avoid partial suspension.
3. Use caster chair foot covers
- Material and function: Silicone or TPR soft-shell foot covers can be slipped over the existing wheels without replacing them, providing floor scratch protection, noise reduction, and a slight height increase (about 1-2 cm).
- Installation method: Slip the foot cover directly onto the wheel, ensuring a tight fit to prevent it from coming off during use.
4. Use a high-caster fixing device
- Applicable scenario: If a slight height increase (1-2 cm) is needed, a fixing device with a U-shaped slot can be chosen.
- Installation method: Insert the fixing device between the chair leg and the wheel, securing it with the U-shaped slot. This operation is simple and does not require disassembling the original wheel.
5. Adjust the gas lift rod
- Principle: The gas lift rod regulates seat height by compressing gas and is a common lifting mechanism in office chairs.
- Operation method: Locate the adjustment handle under the seat, sit firmly, and repeatedly press the handle until the seat reaches the desired height. If the gas lift rod fails, contact a professional repair technician for replacement.
Precautions: When replacing wheels or adjusting the gas lift rod, ensure the chair is in a stable position to prevent tipping. After adding heightening pads or foot covers, check the overall balance of the chair to prevent sideways tipping.
