Maintenance of Height-Adjustable Office Chairs
Admin October 12, 2026
The maintenance of height-adjustable office chairs should be carried out systematically from six aspects: lubrication and maintenance, daily cleaning, usage habits, regular inspection and tightening, wheel maintenance, and avoiding common mistakes:

1. Lubrication and Maintenance
- Lifting System: If the chair experiences stuttering during lifting, apply 1-2 drops of silicone oil or specialized lubricating oil (avoid cooking oil) at the connection between the gas cylinder and the base. Lift and lower the chair several times to evenly distribute the lubricant.
- Rotating Components: Apply white lithium grease (NLGI Grade 2 viscosity) to the track of the base turntable to eliminate stiffness in rotation.
- Connecting Shafts: Regularly apply a small amount of lubricating oil to the shafts to reduce noise and stuttering.
- Gas Cylinder: Do not lubricate the gas cylinder itself directly; only treat the connection between it and the base.
2. Daily Cleaning
- Mesh/Fabric Seat: Use a vacuum cleaner or soft brush to clean dust weekly. For stains, dilute a neutral detergent and gently wipe, avoiding liquid penetration into the interior.
- Leather Seat: Wipe dust daily with a dry, soft cloth. Clean sweat and oil stains weekly with a slightly damp cloth. Apply specialized leather conditioner quarterly to prevent cracking and fading.
- Plastic/Metal Frame: Wipe stains with soapy water and dry. For metal rust, use a cotton cloth dampened with white vinegar, let it sit for 5 minutes, then wipe clean.
3. Usage Habits
- Avoid Heavy Pressure: Do not place heavy or sharp objects on the armrests or seat to prevent deformation and dents.
- Gentle Handling: Avoid bumping the chair against walls or table corners when moving it to prevent frame cracking or wheel damage.
- Prevent Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause aging and fading of leather and fabric materials.
- Standard Operation: Press and twist gently when lifting or rotating. Do not stand on the seat or lean back excessively.
4. Regular Inspection and Tightening
- Screw Tightening: Check screws and connectors monthly for looseness and tighten them promptly.
- Key Component Inspection: Regularly inspect the lifting control lever, gas cylinder, base, etc. Contact professional maintenance immediately if abnormalities are found.
5. Wheel Maintenance
- Clear Obstructions: Regularly remove hair and threads from the wheels. Apply a small amount of lubricating oil if they become stuck.
- Axle Lubrication: Annually, use a cotton swab to apply grease to the axles (after removing any obstructions).
6. Avoid Common Mistakes
- No WD-40: Rust removers can wash away the original grease and increase wear.
- No Cooking Oil: It can oxidize and solidify, attracting cockroaches.
- Appropriate Amount of Grease: Excess grease can attract dust and form an abrasive paste; apply thinly.
