Hand-Cranked Office Chair Adjustment
Admin October 10, 2026
The height adjustment of a hand-cranked office chair can be operated using the lifting handle or lever located beneath the chair seat, with the specific steps outlined as follows:

Locate the Adjustment Component
The position of the chair's lifting mechanism varies depending on its design, commonly found on the side or front beneath the seat. There are three common types:
- Pull-up Lever: Typically a metal or plastic elongated handle, which is a standard feature on most office chairs and is usually located directly beneath or on the side of the seat.
- Press-down Handle: Some brands place a circular or square press button on the armrest or side of the chair body, which requires pressing to trigger the adjustment.
- Foot-operated Device: A few models feature a metal rod beneath the seat that is adjusted by stepping on it, requiring the user's body weight to complete the adjustment.
Operation Process
Raising the Seat:
- Sit steadily and maintain balance, then locate the adjustment component (e.g., pull up the pull-up lever or press down the press-down handle).
- No additional force is needed; the seat will rise slowly due to the automatic action of the internal gas lift, and it can be locked by releasing the handle once the desired height is reached.
Lowering the Seat:
- Similarly, sit steadily and operate the adjustment component while applying downward pressure with your body weight (e.g., leaning forward or lightly pressing on the seat).
- The seat will descend slowly, and it can be fixed by releasing the handle once it reaches the desired position.
Correct Height Reference Standards
After adjustment, it should meet ergonomic requirements to reduce fatigue from prolonged sitting:
- Upper Limb Angle: The upper arm should be parallel to the spine, with the elbow at a 90-degree angle, allowing the hand to rest naturally on the desktop or keyboard without shrugging or bending the wrist.
- Leg Space: Fingers should be able to slide freely between the underside of the thigh and the front edge of the seat without any squeezing sensation, avoiding pressure on the leg nerves.
- Eye Level: When opening your eyes, your line of sight should fall in the center of the computer screen to avoid neck strain from looking up or down.
- Lumbar Support: The hips should be pressed against the backrest, and a cushion can be placed at the lower back to maintain the natural curve of the spine and reduce lumbar burden.
Handling Special Situations
- Lever Malfunction: If there is no response after pulling up the lever, it may be due to a lack of gas in the gas lift or internal jamming. Try lifting the seat slightly and reoperating; if it still doesn't work, contact a professional for repair.
- Electric Adjustment Chair: Some high-end models are controlled by electric buttons on the armrests (e.g., "โ/โ" keys). Before operation, ensure that the power supply is connected properly to avoid functional failure due to power outage.
