Halo Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

The office chair with a 'halo' mainly refers to the Halo Chair CG-S046-1 or S046-1, which combines elements of sofas and chairs, offering both comfort and innovation, and has won the Red Dot Best Design Award. The following provides an introduction from four aspects: design features, dimensions, materials and craftsmanship, and the designer's background.

In terms of design features, the Halo Chair breaks away from the single form of traditional office chairs by blending the structures of sofas and chairs to form a harmonious combination known as the 'halo group'. Its design philosophy emphasizes the balance between ergonomics and aesthetics, providing a sofa-like enveloping feel while retaining the support of a chair, making it suitable for long-term office scenarios. This innovative design stood out in the 2023 Red Dot Design Awards, winning the 'Best Design Award' and reflecting the Nordic design pursuit of functionality and artistry.

Regarding dimensions, the Halo Chair offers two options to accommodate different spatial needs. The small size measures 1030mm (width) ร— 760mm (depth) ร— 1020mm (height), suitable for compact office environments or small apartments; the large size measures 1140mm (width) ร— 840mm (depth) ร— 1260mm (height), providing more spacious sitting and lying space, suitable for open office areas or home studies. Both sizes have been calculated based on ergonomics to ensure a natural sitting posture and reduce fatigue.

In terms of materials and craftsmanship, the Halo Chair uses a diverse combination of materials, balancing durability and comfort. The main frame is made of steel pipes, providing stable support; connecting parts are made of nylon, enhancing structural flexibility; the seat base is plywood, ensuring even weight distribution; the seat cushion and backrest are filled with high-density foam, covered with fabric or upholstery, offering a soft touch and excellent breathability. This material combination not only ensures the chair's long-term usability but also enhances its overall aesthetic appeal through the texture of the upholstery.

Regarding the designer's background, the Halo Chair was designed by Finnish designer Mikko Laakkonen. Laakkonen is known for his design philosophy of 'simplicity without simplicity', often blending natural elements with modern craftsmanship and focusing on the emotional interaction between users and products. The design of the Halo Chair embodies this philosophy, creating a professional yet warm office atmosphere through soft curves and modular structures, making it one of the representative cases of Nordic design on a global scale.
