Hair Stuck in Office Chair Wheel
When hair gets stuck in the wheels of an office chair, it can be resolved through basic cleaning, tool cleaning, lubrication and softening methods, while also paying attention to operating standards and taking long-term preventive measures.

Basic Cleaning
Turn the office chair upside down on a stable surface. Wear cotton gloves and rotate the wheels counterclockwise while removing the surface hair clumps. This method is suitable for cases where the entanglement is shallow, and it is simple to operate and can quickly remove surface hair.
Tool Cleaning
- Hooking Method: Use toothpicks, hairpins, pointed tweezers, flat-headed tweezers, or old bank cards to hook the hair strands. Wrap the tool clockwise and pull it outward. If the wheels are made of rubber, you can use a handheld vacuum cleaner to suck while picking.
- Loosening Method: Use a long, thin awl or toothpick to pick out the loose hair strands in a circular motion in the opposite direction of the entanglement.
- Disassembly Method: If the wheels are of the plug-and-pull type, simply pull them out vertically with force to release all the hair strands. If they cannot be disassembled, use nail clippers to reach into the gaps and cut the hair strands one by one.
Lubrication and Softening
- Spraying Lubricant: Spray a large amount of hair conditioner, cooking oil, lubricating oil, or lubricating spray into the gaps of the wheel axles to reduce friction and make the hair easier to fall off.
- Hot Water Soaking: Immerse the wheels in a basin of hot water at about 70โ for about 15 minutes. The softened hair strands can be easily removed by gently rubbing them with your fingernails. However, nylon wheels should not be soaked for a long time.
- Oil Soaking: Drip peanut oil or olive oil into the gaps of the wheel axles and let it sit for half an hour to dissolve the oily dirt and facilitate the removal of the entangled hair as a whole.
- Essential Balm Dissolution: Drip essential balm onto the wheel axles and let it sit for 5 minutes. The alcohol in it can dissolve the hair grease and enhance the falling-off effect.
Other Methods
- High-Temperature Brittleness: For universal wheels with bearings, quickly pass a lighter over the surface of the wheels (at a distance of 5 cm). The high temperature will make the hair fibers brittle and easy to clean.
- Cleaner Treatment: For universal wheels with brake functions, when maintaining, turn the chair over and rotate the wheels. Spray the cleaner during rotation to thoroughly remove the broken hair stuck at the bottom of the axles.
Precautions
Do not pull hard. The wheel axles of office chairs have a self-locking effect, and the more you pull, the tighter the entanglement will be. Do not blindly cut the hair, as it may lead to cutting the scalp or the hair strands getting knotted. Do not use brute force to pull to avoid damaging the wheel axle buckles. After treatment, wipe off the lubricant residue with a damp cloth to prevent the floor from slipping. For detachable wheels, directly remove the wheel frame and clean it with toothpicks for a more thorough result.
Long-Term Prevention
You can lay anti-static carpets to reduce hair adsorption or replace them with fully-wrapped silent rollers or silicone anti-hair-entanglement chair wheels. Some high-end seats adopt an open-bearing design, which structurally avoids the risk of entanglement. If the hair volume in the usage environment is large, using a vacuum cleaner for dust removal and wiping the wheel axles with alcohol wipes every week can reduce the probability of blockage.
