Gray Office Chair Yellowing

Admin October 11, 2026

Gray office chairs may turn yellow, and the following methods can be used for treatment based on different materials:

Plastic or rubber materials: Long-term exposure to air oxidation is the main cause of yellowing. You can make a paste with baking soda and warm water, apply it to the yellowed area, let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, and then wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Alternatively, you can wipe it with white vinegar diluted in warm water (at a 1:2 ratio), which can effectively fade the yellow stains. You can also first make a solution by mixing white vinegar and warm water at a 1:1 ratio, dip a soft cloth into it, and repeatedly wipe the chair surface. For stubborn yellow stain areas, you can add a little baking soda to make a paste, apply it for 10 minutes, and then wipe it off. Finally, wipe it clean with clean water and let it air-dry naturally in a well-ventilated place.

Leather materials: Yellowing can be caused by oil oxidation or residual stains. First, use a mild leather cleaner (or diluted unscented body wash if not available) to remove surface dirt. Then, dip a cloth into a lemon acid solution diluted at a 1:5 ratio and gently wipe the yellow stains. After wiping, use a damp cloth to remove any remaining lemon acid, and finally apply a small amount of leather conditioner to restore the surface luster. Be careful to avoid liquid seeping into the leather seams and damaging the leather. Do not use alcohol or strong acid-base cleaners, as they can corrode the leather surface. Diluted soapy water or special leather cleaners are more suitable. Dip a clean soft cloth into them and gently wipe. After wiping, apply a layer of leather care oil in a timely manner.

Fabric materials: Yellowing can be caused by stain penetration or oxidation. Make a dilute solution with mild laundry detergent and warm water, dip a soft-bristled brush into it, and gently brush the yellowed area. Then, repeatedly wipe it with aๆ‹งๅนฒ็š„ (wrung-out) damp towel. Finally, let it air-dry in a well-ventilated place. Do not expose it to the sun to prevent the color from deepening. You can also first mix laundry detergent or color-safe bleach with warm water according to the instructions, gently brush the yellowed area with a soft-bristled brush, let it sit for 15 minutes after brushing, and then wash it as usual. After washing, let it air-dry and do not expose it to the sun.

Wooden materials with a coating: For wooden frames with fabric surfaces, gently wipe them with a damp cloth dipped in a small amount of mild detergent during cleaning, and then dry them with a dry cloth. Avoid soaking them in a large amount of water to prevent the wood from getting moldy and deformed. If there is local yellowing on solid wood with a clear varnish layer, you can apply a matching wood wax oil after cleaning to remove the yellowing and protect the wooden surface. For the treatment of yellowing on painted office furniture, since the surface usually uses paint, you can wipe it with a towel dipped in warm water, and then gently brush it with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Use a soft brush or a linen cloth, but do not use this method frequently.
