General Office Chair Installation

Admin October 19, 2026

The installation steps for a general office chair are as follows:

1. Pre-installation Preparation
Check the quantity of parts. Common parts include the backrest, seat, five-star base, casters (5 pieces), gas lift, butterfly plate, armrests (1 pair), several screws (including Torx screws), and a headrest (for some models). Prepare tools such as a Phillips screwdriver and an Allen wrench. Note: For some chairs, the backrest and seat are integrated, and the types and quantities of screws may vary, so confirm in advance.

2. Install Casters
Insert each of the 5 casters firmly into the mounting holes of the five-star base. Since some domestic casters may not meet standard specifications, apply appropriate force during installation to ensure they are securely fastened and prevent them from coming loose during subsequent use.

3. Install Gas Lift
Turn over the five-star base with the installed casters and vertically place the thicker end of the gas lift into the center hole of the five-star base. If the chair comes with a protective cover, place it simultaneously to protect the gas lift.

4. Install Base Plate
Place the butterfly plate (base plate) on the bottom of the seat, paying attention to distinguishing the front and back sides. After aligning it with the 4 screw holes on the seat, first use a screwdriver to lightly tighten the 4 screws 3-4 turns to fix the position, and then tighten them one by one to ensure a firm connection between the base plate and the seat.

5. Install Armrests

  • Button-type Installation: Press the button below the armrest surface and insert the left and right armrests into the holes of the armrest brackets respectively. A clicking sound indicates that they are in place.
  • Screw-fixed Installation: Align the holes of the armrests with the brackets on the seat, and fix them with screws (usually 3 pieces). Avoid applying excessive force during installation; tighten to about 90% of the maximum tightness and ensure that the washers are properly installed to distribute the pressure.

6. Install Backrest

  • Insert the two sides at the bottom of the backrest into the armrest mounting positions on both sides of the seat, and first fix the bottom of the backrest with 2 C-shaped screws from the bottom of the armrest brackets.
  • Align the mounting holes at the back of the backrest with those on the seat brackets, and use two wrenches to lock the D-shaped screws in place to ensure a firm connection between the backrest and the seat. Suggestion: Install washers to reduce wear.

7. Overall Assembly
Align the seat with the top of the gas lift and insert it into the hole of the base plate, ensuring that the gas lift is aligned with the center of the butterfly plate. Press down on the seat firmly 3-5 times, and then lift the seat slightly to test its stability. If the seat comes off, recheck the connection between the gas lift and the base plate.

8. Install Headrest
Align the headrest with the center position at the top of the backrest, press the headrest mounting area to make it fit the backrest. Thread 2 screws through the headrest fixing clips, lightly tighten them 3-4 turns, and then tighten them one by one. After installation, gently pat the headrest to test its tightness. If it is loose, retighten it.

9. Inspection
After installation, do not sit on the chair immediately. Shake the chair left, right, front, and back by hand to check if the connections between all parts are firm and if the screws are loose. For some chairs, additional safety screws may need to be installed (this is not a mandatory step), and you can follow the instructions in the manual.
