Function of Office Chair Knob

Admin October 09, 2026

The main functions of the round knob under an office chair include adjusting the backrest elasticity, tilt angle, controlling the protrusion degree of the lumbar support, adjusting the chair height, and enabling locking or unlocking functions, etc.

Adjusting Backrest Elasticity and Tilt Angle: This is one of the most common functions of the round knob on an office chair. By turning the knob clockwise, the backrest can be tightened, making it firmer and providing stronger support for the user. This is suitable for situations where one needs to maintain an upright sitting posture for a long time or engage in high-intensity work. Conversely, turning the knob counterclockwise will make the backrest softer, offering more flexible support and allowing the user to adjust their sitting posture more freely to relieve physical fatigue.

Controlling the Protrusion Degree of the Lumbar Support: Some high-end office chairs have round knobs that can control the protrusion degree of the lumbar support. For example, chairs like the Habitat P2Pro allow for three-dimensional adjustment of the lumbar support, including up and down, left and right. By rotating the knob, users can precisely adjust the protrusion degree of the lumbar support according to their own lumbar curve and comfort needs, providing more tailored and effective support for the waist to prevent and alleviate lower back pain.

Adjusting Chair Height: The round knob on some office chairs is also connected to a gas lift, allowing for height adjustment of the chair by rotating the rod up or down. Rotating the rod upwards will raise the chair, while rotating it downwards will lower the chair. This design enables users to easily adjust the chair height according to their own height, desk height, and usage scenarios, helping to maintain a correct sitting posture and improve work and study efficiency.

Locking or Unlocking Function: Some office chairs also have round knobs with locking or unlocking functions. Pushing the rod inwards can lock the chair, fixing its current state and preventing accidental movement or tilting during use, ensuring the user's safety. Pulling the rod outwards, on the other hand, can unlock the chair, restoring its free adjustment function and allowing the user to make various adjustments as needed.
