Front-Back Sliding Office Chair

Admin October 10, 2026

The core operation of a front-back sliding office chair is achieved by adjusting the gas spring catch or the unlocking mechanism of the slide rail at the bottom of the chair body, with specific steps varying depending on the type of chair.

I. Conventional Ergonomic Office Chairs (with Gas Spring or Slide Rail)

  1. Locate the Adjustment Mechanism:
The adjustment structure of such chairs is usually concentrated beneath the seat. Users should stand to the side of the chair, reach out to touch the connection point between the chair legs and the seat, and look for a circular lever or toggle (some models may have a hidden design that requires slight pressure or sliding to activate).

  2. Unlock and Move:
After holding down the lever or toggle, maintain pressure and push the chair forward or backward along the floor. If the chair is equipped with a five-star base with casters, the pushing process is more effortless, but care should be taken to control the force to avoid colliding with surrounding objects; if it has a fixed base without casters, a bit more force is needed to overcome friction.

  3. Lock the New Position:
After adjusting to the ideal sitting distance (it is recommended that the knees be naturally bent at about 90 degrees and the feet be flat on the ground), release the lever or toggle. The internal catch of the gas spring or slide rail will automatically lock, securing the chair's position.

II. Old-Fashioned Fixed-Base Office Chairs (without Gas Spring or Slide Rail)

  1. Check the Fixing Method:
Some old-fashioned chairs are fixed in position by screws beneath the chair legs. Before operation, check the instruction manual to confirm the location of the screws and the adjustment method (some models may require complete disassembly of the chair legs for reinstallation).

  2. Loosen the Screws and Adjust:
Use an appropriate tool (such as a wrench) to loosen the fixing screws beneath the chair legs, allowing the chair to slide forward or backward. After adjusting to the target position, tighten the screws and test for stability to ensure the chair does not wobble.

III. Precautions

  1. Safe Operation:
Avoid suddenly releasing your hand or applying excessive force during adjustment to prevent the chair from moving out of control or the gas spring from rebounding. If the chair is equipped with casters, ensure the floor is level when moving to avoid jamming or tipping over.

  2. Sitting Comfort Test:
After each adjustment, sit down and test to confirm that the knee bending angle and foot support status meet ergonomic requirements. An incorrect sitting distance may increase the risk of lower back and leg strain.

  3. Maintenance Advice:
Regularly clean the adjustment mechanism at the bottom of the chair to prevent dust or debris from getting stuck and causing operation failure. If the gas spring or slide rail becomes stuck, contact a professional for repair and do not disassemble it yourself.
