Folding Office Chair Slips

Admin October 12, 2026

The slipping of a folding office chair may be caused by factors such as gas spring failure, loose screws, seat structure imbalance or frame deformation, and folding mechanism malfunctions, which can be resolved through targeted measures.

  1. Gas Spring Failure
The gas spring (gas strut) is the core component of a pneumatic folding office chair, and its failure is a common cause of slipping. The gas spring maintains nitrogen pressure through internal seals to lock the seat height. If the seals wear out or nitrogen leaks, the locking force is lost, resulting in the seat slowly sinking, feeling weak when pressed, or emitting a hissing sound. In this case, a new gas spring with safety certification should be replaced, and the use of inferior parts should be avoided to prevent safety hazards.

  2. Loose Screws
Loose screws connecting the seat to the base can compromise structural stability. Check the adjustment valve and locking mechanism at the bottom of the chair for any foreign object blockages, and ensure all screws and bolts are tightened. If any are found to be loose, use tools to tighten them one by one, paying special attention to the connection points between the seat and gas spring, and the base and five-star foot.

  3. Seat Structure Imbalance or Frame Deformation
Prolonged use or external impact can cause the seat frame to deform or crack, leading to structural imbalance. Observe whether the frame shows signs of bending, breaking, or misalignment at the joints. Minor deformations can be adjusted with pliers or gently tapped back into place with a rubber mallet; if the frame is severely damaged, the entire frame should be replaced to ensure safety.

  4. Folding Mechanism Malfunction
Loose or damaged components such as support rods and folding hinges in the folding chair can prevent the seat from locking securely. Check the moving parts of the folding mechanism for any blockages, wear, or breakage. Minor malfunctions can be resolved by tightening screws or lubricating joints; if parts are damaged, replace the corresponding components or reinstall the folding mechanism.

Preventive Measures: Regularly inspect the condition of the gas spring, screws, and frame, avoid overloading or vigorously shaking the chair to extend its lifespan and reduce the risk of slipping. If self-repair is ineffective, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician for inspection and repair.
