Folding Office Chair Repair
Admin October 11, 2026
Folding office chair repair requires targeted handling based on the specific type of fault. Common problems and solutions are as follows:

I. Limit Device Failure (Common in Modern Folding Chairs)
If the chair cannot be fixed at an angle, suddenly slides down when sat on, or folds unexpectedly, it is usually due to a failure of the limit device. This can be addressed using the "three-step troubleshooting method":
- Inspection and Reset Operation: Gently lift the backrest, align the moving parts with the fixed slots, and press down vertically until the tongue is fully embedded in the groove. If there is debris in the slot or the tongue is deformed, clean the debris or slightly adjust the shape of the tongue.
- Inspection of Mechanical Connections: Shake the chair joints and connections to check for loose screws, especially the limit screws at the connections between the seat and the frame, and between the armrests and the seat panel. Use a wrench or screwdriver to tighten all loose screws, avoiding excessive force that could cause the screws to strip.
- Inspection of Core Limit Components: Check for wear, cracks, or deformation in plastic locks or metal slots, aging, loss of elasticity, or breakage of binding ropes or elastic bands, and significant bending or deformation of metal structures. If components are damaged, replace them with parts of the same specifications; if the elastic band is loose, adjust its length or replace it with a new one.
II. Repair of Traditional Folding Chairs
For traditional bamboo or wooden folding chairs, the repair steps are as follows:
- Inspection of Damage: Remove detachable parts (such as the bamboo seat panel) and clean any residue. If parts are missing (such as bamboo panels), select bamboo of an appropriate length, split it with a bamboo knife, shape it with a file, and install it to ensure it matches the original structure.
- Repair of the Main Frame: Apply wood glue to cracks or loose mortise-and-tenon joints and secure them with clamps for more than 24 hours to ensure the glue is fully cured. If the frame is deformed, use pliers or a rubber mallet to make slight adjustments, avoiding excessive force that could cause breakage.
- Installation of Seat Panel Ropes: Choose strong and durable ropes, drill holes at the original structure, thread the ropes through, hide the thread ends inside the holes, and secure them with wooden pegs to prevent rope displacement. For the seat panel, thread the ropes through the round holes in the bamboo strips to ensure even force distribution.
III. Handling of Other Common Faults
- Seat Detachment: Check for loose screws at the connection between the seat and the frame and tighten them with a wrench; if the structure is unbalanced, readjust the seat angle or reinforce the connection points.
- Base Detachment: Locate the fixing screws under the base, tighten them with a wrench, or replace missing screws to ensure a secure connection between the base and the seat.
- Frame Deformation: Check for cracks or bending in the frame, use pliers to repair minor deformations, and replace the entire frame if the deformation is severe.
- Folding Mechanism Failure: If the support rod is loose or the folding shaft is damaged, disassemble the mechanism to inspect the wear of the parts, replace damaged components, or reinstall the folding mechanism.
Repair Tips: Ensure the chair is in a stable state before operation to avoid tipping during repair; if welding of metal parts or complex structural adjustments are involved, it is recommended to contact professional repair personnel.
