Homemade Folding Office Chair

Admin October 11, 2026

There are mainly two methods for making a homemade folding office chair: metal and simple wood. Here are the specific introductions:

Metal Folding Chair

When making a metal folding office chair, galvanized square tubes are usually chosen as the main material. First, use a ruler to accurately measure the dimensions of the required square iron tubes and make clear marks at the corresponding positions. This step is crucial for ensuring the accuracy of subsequent cutting and assembly. Next, use professional cutting tools to cut the square iron tubes to the appropriate lengths according to the marked dimensions. After cutting, place the cut iron tubes on a drill press and drill holes at the pre-marked locations. The purpose of drilling holes is to facilitate the insertion of screws later, enabling a firm connection between the various components. During the drilling process, pay attention to controlling the rotational speed of the drill bit and the downward pressure to ensure that the diameter and depth of the holes meet the design requirements, avoiding holes that are too large or too small, which could affect the overall structural stability of the chair. After completing the drilling, assemble the various components together using screws according to the design drawings to form the basic frame of the folding chair. During assembly, ensure that the screws are tightened and the connections between the components are secure. At the same time, pay attention to adjusting the angle and balance of the chair so that it can fold and function properly.

Simple Wooden Folding Chair

To make a simple wooden folding chair, first find a suitable piece of woodworking board. Evenly apply masking tape on the surface of the woodworking board and cover it completely. This can prevent damage to the surface of the woodworking board when drawing patterns and also facilitate subsequent cutting operations. Use a pen to carefully draw the pattern of the chair on the masking tape. During the drawing process, make reasonable use of tools such as rulers and compasses to ensure the neatness and accuracy of the graphics. If the drawn graphics are not clear enough, pause the operation and carefully study the graphics or zoom in on screenshots for a better view. After drawing clear graphics, use professional cutting tools to cut along the edges of the graphics. After cutting, use a curve to divide the graphics into several parts along the lines. Then, first peel off the masking tape and use sandpaper to sand the edges of the divided components until the corners are smooth to avoid scratching the skin during use. After sanding, assemble the various components together and use a hole punch to make small circular holes at the appropriate positions for installing hinges. When installing the hinges, pay attention to the installation direction and position of the hinges to ensure that the chair can fold and unfold properly. Flip the seat over and continue to install hinges on the other side for fixation. Finally, open the chair, find suitable support points and mark them, and use tools to make two angled holes so that the support components can fit snugly inside, enhancing the stability of the chair.
