Folding Office Chair Collapsed
Admin October 17, 2026
When a folding office chair collapses, it is essential to first identify the cause, then carry out targeted repairs, while remaining vigilant about potential risks.

I. Common Causes of Collapse
The collapse of a folding office chair is usually caused by the following factors:
- Chair Surface Material Issues: Aging and loosening of nylon fabric or mesh, or displacement and collapse of fillers (such as sponge), leading to reduced support.
- Frame and Connection Structure Failures: Bending or deformation of metal tubes, loose screws, worn folding hinges, or breakage of elastic cords or rubber bands, causing structural looseness.
- Core Component Damage: Air pressure rods (lifting function components) leaking air, internal parts breaking, or fatigue fractures in load-bearing structures (such as long-term overloading).
II. Repair Solutions
Choose corresponding measures based on the type of collapse:
- Chair Surface Repair
- Mild Collapse (sagging < 1cm): Adjust the fixing straps. Loosen the screws or buckles under the seat cushion, retighten the straps, and secure them to increase fabric tension.
- Moderate to Severe Collapse or Damage: Replace the nylon fabric. Cut off the old fabric, select high-density wear-resistant materials (such as Teslin mesh), align with the chair frame holes for fixation, tighten, and test the load-bearing capacity. To prevent further loosening, embed high-elasticity anti-crack bands in the cord tracks.
- Frame and Connection Repair
- Loose Connections: Tighten all screws and metal buckles with a screwdriver, and replace aging elastic cords with thicker rubber bands.
- Frame Deformation: If the metal tubes are bent, professional correction or component replacement is required; if broken, it is recommended to replace the chair directly (repair costs may be higher than a new chair).
III. Potential Risks
The collapse of a chair may lead to the following consequences:
- Physical Injury: Sudden breakage may cause falls, sprains, or even lumbar or tailbone injuries (especially for heavier individuals, children, or the elderly). When a chair with armrests collapses, arms may be injured due to rapid descent and abrasion.
- Property Damage: Repair or replacement incurs costs, and damage to rental furniture may lead to deposit disputes; if mobile phones, computers, or other items are broken in falls, additional losses must be borne.
- Chain Reactions in Scenarios: Collapse in an office may affect professional image, and companies may hold individuals responsible for 'improper use'; in dining establishments, customer falls may result in additional compensation for the business; in teaching settings, equipment damage may disrupt teaching.
Tip: Before repairing, assess safety risks. If the chair is severely aged or structurally damaged, it is recommended to replace it with a new one directly to avoid secondary accidents.
