Folding Office Chair

Admin October 13, 2026

You can refer to the following three simple methods for making a paper-folding office chair:

Method 1: Basic Folding

Materials Required: A square piece of paper with a side length of 15 centimeters. Steps:

  1. Initial Folding: Fold the top and bottom edges of the paper in half, unfold it, then fold the left and right edges in half and unfold them to create a cross-shaped crease. Next, fold the top and bottom edges towards the center crease respectively. Flip the paper over and fold the bottom edge up about one-third of the way, and the top edge down to match the remaining length of the bottom edge, forming the้›ๅฝข (initial shape) of the chair seat.
  2. Side Processing: Fold the left and right sides inward by about one-third. Repeat the operation on the right side, then open part of the paper and press it into a triangle. Tuck one corner inside the other corner, adjust it to the back, and repeat the operation on the other side to fix the structure.
  3. Detail Adjustment: Expand the overall structure and pinch out the dividing crease between the chair back and the seat to ensure both sides are symmetrical. This method forms a stable structure through repeated folding and nesting, suitable for quickly making a simple model.

Method 2: Double-Layer Folding

Materials Required: The same as Method 1, a square piece of paper with a side length of 15 centimeters. Steps:

  1. Basic Creasing: Fold the paper in half twice to create a cross-shaped crease. Fold the edge parts towards the center in the opposite direction and press them tightly. Flip the paper over and repeat the folding. Pull the paper open and arrange it into a rectangle along the creases.
  2. Structure Reinforcement: Fold the right side and then fold it in half again, folding the corners towards the edge creases. Press the left and right sides tightly and then open them. Fold along the triangular creases and press them tightly. Open part of the right side and fold it towards the front. Fold the bottom up to form the chair seat.
  3. Final Adjustment: Fold the bottom edge up slightly and press it tightly. Fold the corners towards the creases a second time. Turn the paper over, fold the edge parts slightly, and adjust the direction. Fold the left and right sides towards the center to wrap and fold, finally arranging the chair back and the seat. This method enhances stability through double-layer folding, suitable for scenarios that require weight-bearing.

Method 3: Cross-Shaped Folding

Materials Required: A piece of colored paper (the size can be adjusted flexibly). Steps:

  1. Cross-Shaped Creasing: Fold the paper diagonally in half twice to create an 'X' crease. Unfold it and then fold it into a cross shape. Fold the four corners towards the center, flip the paper over, and repeat the operation to form a multi-layer structure.
  2. Three-Dimensional Shaping: Flip the paper over and fold the four corners towards the center again. Push the four corners up to form the chair back. Fold the edges of three sides down and one side up to fix the structure. This method quickly shapes the chair through central aggregation and directional adjustment, suitable for makers who pursue efficiency.

Precautions:

  • Keep the creases clear when folding. You can use your fingernail or a bone folder to press them tightly.
  • Avoid applying excessive force when adjusting the angles to prevent the paper from tearing.
  • The finished sizes of chairs made by different methods may vary slightly. You can choose the paper size according to your needs.
