Flame-Retardant Fabric Office Chair

Admin October 19, 2026

Flame-retardant fabric office chairs hold significant importance for fire safety in office environments, especially in crowded places. When purchasing, it is essential to focus on the flame-retardant grade of the fabric, differences in application scenarios, and procurement verification methods.

The flame-retardant grade of the fabric is a core indicator. According to a report from the China National Furniture Association, the failure rate of low-cost auditorium chairs is as high as 37.6%, primarily due to the fabric not meeting the B1 standard for flame retardancy. B1-grade materials are difficult to burn, with slow flame spread and low smoke production during combustion, significantly reducing fire risks. When purchasing, it should be clearly required that the fabric passes the national GB 8624-2012 standard for the classification of burning performance of building materials and products and meets the B1 grade or higher. If a product is only labeled as 'flame-retardant' without specifying the grade, its compliance should be carefully verified.

Differences in application scenarios affect fabric performance requirements. Different venues have varying requirements for the abrasion resistance, tear resistance, and other indicators of flame-retardant fabrics. For example, large lecture halls in universities, with high usage frequency, require fabrics with an abrasion resistance grade of at least 50,000 cycles (such as thickened polyester or nylon blends) to withstand long-term friction. In primary and secondary school stepped lecture halls equipped with writing boards, where students frequently flip the seats, the fabric needs to be tear-resistant (such as those woven with high-strength warp and weft threads). Although small multifunctional lecture halls have low usage frequency, the flame-retardant grade cannot be compromised, and ease of cleaning should also be considered (such as choosing fabrics with surface coating treatments).

Procurement verification methods must be strictly regulated. During the bidding phase, fabric parameters, including flame-retardant grade, abrasion resistance cycles, and tear strength, should be clearly specified in the bid documents to avoid vague descriptions like 'high-quality' or 'high-performance'. Upon arrival, verification can be conducted through the following methods:

  1. Review detection reports: Require suppliers to provide flame-retardant performance detection reports issued by third-party institutions to confirm compliance with the B1 grade requirement.
  2. On-site combustion tests: Cut small pieces of fabric for vertical combustion tests, observing the flame spread speed and extinction time (B1 grade requires a burning time of โ‰ค10 seconds with no melting drips).
  3. Abrasion resistance tests: Use a Martindale abrasion tester to simulate long-term use and check for pilling or damage on the fabric surface.
  4. Tear resistance checks: Test the strength of fabric seams through manual pulling or professional instruments to ensure no risk of cracking.

By implementing these measures, flame-retardant fabric office chairs that meet fire safety requirements can be effectively selected, ensuring public safety in crowded places.
