Fixed Office Chair Modification

Admin October 17, 2026

There are mainly three ways to modify fixed office chairs: upgrading from passenger seat, rust renovation, and adding comfort accessories. The specific methods are as follows:

If you need to transform a passenger seat into an office chair, you can customize a steel plate as a connector. The steel plate should have 16 holes reserved, with 10 for securing the seat body and 6 for installing armrests (only 10 holes are needed if no armrests are required). During modification, first firmly connect the steel plate to the bottom of the seat with six screws to ensure the stability of the seat and the steel plate; then fix the casters to the bottom of the steel plate with four screws to enable the mobility of the office chair; finally, connect the power supply (using batteries and adapters) to provide power for the possible electric adjustment functions of the seat (such as height adjustment and tilt adjustment). This method is suitable for users who have high requirements for seat functions and possess certain hands-on skills. After modification, the comfort and functionality of the seat can be significantly improved.

For rusty office chairs, a water-based paint renovation method can be used. First, thoroughly sand the rusty areas with a steel wool to remove surface rust and loose coatings, ensuring a flat metal surface; then, apply a thin layer of water-based paint. After it is completely dry, repeat the application 2-3 times to form a uniform and durable paint film. Water-based paint is environmentally friendly, dries quickly, and has strong adhesion, making it suitable for renovating iron office chairs, tables, stools, and other furniture. This method not only restores the appearance of the furniture but also effectively prevents further rust expansion and extends its service life.

If the backrest of the office chair is straight, causing the waist to be suspended during long sitting, you can improve it by adding comfort accessories. It is recommended to use an ergonomic lumbar support (such as a butterfly-shaped memory foam lumbar support), which is designed to conform to the curve of the human lumbar spine and provide precise support. When installing, fix the lumbar support to the backrest with straps and adjust it to the waist position to ensure it fits the physiological curve of the lumbar spine. The memory foam material can automatically shape according to the pressure on the waist, distribute the pressure, and relieve fatigue from long sitting. This method is simple to operate and has a low cost, suitable for most office chairs with straight backrests, and can effectively improve the comfort of long sitting.
