Disassembly of Fixed Office Chairs
Admin October 13, 2026
The disassembly of fixed office chairs requires selecting the appropriate method based on the design type. Modular structures can be disassembled step by step, while non-modular structures are recommended to be handled by professionals.

I. Disassembly Process for Modular Office Chairs
Modular office chairs typically consist of components such as chair legs, casters, gas cylinders, seat, backrest, armrests, and headrests. The connections are mostly made with screws, clips, or pins, and can be disassembled step by step in the reverse order of installation:
- Separate the Backrest from the Seat
Use a screwdriver to loosen the fixing screws at the connection between the backrest and the seat, and remove the backrest. If the screws are rusted or the clips are tight, a small amount of lubricant can be sprayed to assist in disassembly, avoiding forced pulling that may cause deformation of the components. - Remove the Base from the Gas Cylinder
Raise the gas cylinder to its highest position, hold the seat with one hand, press the lift lever with the other hand, and gently shake to separate the base from the gas cylinder. If the connection is too tight, invert the chair legs and lightly tap the bottom of the gas cylinder with a rubber mallet or a wooden board to loosen it through vibration. Be careful to avoid violent tapping to prevent the gas cylinder from accidentally popping out and causing injury. - Disassemble Other Components
Armrests and headrests are usually fixed with screws and can be removed after loosening the screws. If there are clip designs between components, observe the direction of the clips and slowly pry them open along the gap with a plastic pry tool or fingernail to avoid scratching the surface.
II. Precautions for Special Fixed Structures
- One-Piece Molding or Glue/Rivet Fixation
Some classroom chairs and integrated public seats are made using one-piece molding processes or are fixed with glue or rivets, making the structure irreversible. Forced disassembly may cause component breakage or functional failure, requiring the use of professional tools (such as electric drills, rivet guns) or contacting the manufacturer for handling. - Design Differences Affect Operational Details
Different models of office chairs may have operational differences, such as the lift lever needing to be pressed "downward and backward" or the seat needing to be supported "from underneath with the arm" during disassembly. It is recommended to consult the product manual before disassembly or obtain specific guidance through the brand's official website or customer service.
III. Safety Tips
- Take photos to record the positions and connection methods of each component before disassembly for reference during reassembly.
- When separating the gas cylinder from the chair legs, keep your body away from the axial direction of the gas cylinder to prevent it from suddenly popping out due to internal high pressure.
- If the office chair has a non-modular design (such as one-piece molding or fixed gluing), forced disassembly may damage the structure. It is recommended to contact the manufacturer or a professional repair technician for handling.
