Factory Production of Office Chairs

Admin October 10, 2026

The process of producing office chairs in factories involves multiple steps, and operations vary among different factories. The following is a common production process:

Seat Frame Production

  • Bottom Cushion Frame: In some factories, workers use hydraulic-powered machines to bend 14-gauge steel pipes into the shape of the bottom cushion frame. In a factory in Pakistan, the master first cuts the steel pipes to standard lengths, then presses them into curved shapes for making the base. After that, the steel pipes are installed onto molds on a welding platform and welded using gas shielded arc welding.
  • Middle Support and Adjustment Mechanism: Some factories connect the ends of steel bars through welding to serve as the middle support and a mechanism for adjusting the seat position.
  • Flexible Suspension Net Setup: S-shaped steel springs are used to hook onto the front and back of the seat frame, forming a flexible suspension net. To increase stability and support the seat frame, iron bars are horizontally clamped onto the springs.

Seat Back Production

  • Frame Processing: The backrest frame includes components such as spine and lumbar support and armrest attachments. Workers polish burrs and other rough spots on the steel.
  • Leather Processing: Workers evenly place smooth leather on a cutting table and cut it according to cardboard templates. They work around natural defects in the leather, calculating the cutting positions to minimize waste, and only one piece of leather can be used for one office chair.
  • Foam Cushion Processing: Hard foam is selected for contour cushioning of the chair, and softer foam is used for the back part. A narrow slit is cut into the backrest cushion to reflect design features. Then, chalk is used to draw lines at corresponding positions on the leather and foam to ensure aligned cuts before sewing. When sewing the backrest of the chair, the filling is sewn onto the pattern pieces, and then the shell with the contour is sewn onto the sides. After sewing is complete, particle board is added outside the frame, wrapped with foam, and finally covered with leather.

Base and Mobility Mechanism Installation

  • Footrest Processing: In the Pakistani factory, after assembling the welded workpieces, the caster brackets are welded onto the footrest. Since the footrest has a lot of rust on its surface, it is soaked in an acid pickling tank, then rinsed with clean water, wiped with a towel, and placed in sawdust to remove moisture. Next, the exterior of the footrest is polished using a sanding belt, and then it undergoes galvanizing.
  • Slide Bar and Mobility Mechanism Installation: The slide bars are screwed onto the base, and the mechanisms that work with the slide bars are installed, allowing the seat to be moved back and forth according to legroom requirements.
