Existing Office Chairs

Admin October 08, 2026

Existing office chairs come in a wide variety, covering different functions and designs, and each has its own characteristics in terms of quality and market development.

Types and Functions

Broadly speaking, office chairs include all chairs used in offices, such as executive chairs and staff chairs. Office swivel chairs are office seating equipped with rotation and height-adjustment functions, including series like executive chairs, mid-back chairs, and staff chairs. Executive chairs feature a high-back structure and come standard with armrests, suitable for management use; staff chairs have a low-back and no-armrest design to meet the daily office needs of ordinary employees. Their core components include seat cushions, backrests, five-star bases, casters, and pneumatic height-adjustment systems. Their design follows ergonomic principles and is not only suitable for office settings but also for home and medical environments. Some office chairs have unique functions. For example, UE office chairs can rock left and right, have an adjustable backrest, fold-out armrests that form a small flat surface, and fold-out leg rests for lying down and resting, meeting the diverse needs of users.

Quality Situation

There are certain quality issues with office chairs. On March 2, 2023, the United States and Canada implemented a recall of office chairs made in China due to the risk of the backrest breaking, which posed a falling hazard. On September 30, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation's national supervision and inspection of office chairs found that 15 batches of products were unqualified, with stability issues being prominent. On January 16, 2025, the United States implemented a recall of WorkPro Momentum office chairs made in China because the bolts might fail, posing a falling risk. This indicates that there are deficiencies in quality control for some office chairs, and consumers need to be cautious when making purchases.

Market Development

The Chinese office chair industry has developed rapidly. Since 2000, it has grown through the OEM model, with Anji County in Zhejiang Province becoming a global production base. In 2024, China's office chair production reached 177 million pieces, with an export volume of 84.64 million pieces. The industry is showing a trend of intelligence, with some products integrating pressure sensors, health monitoring, and APP control functions. In 2025, the market size for hydraulic lift swivel chairs is expected to exceed 16 billion yuan. For domestic ergonomic office chairs, there will be 10 well-reviewed options available in 2026. When selecting, attention can be paid to aspects such as the fit of the waist and back, the support and depth design of the seat cushion, the adjustment of the armrests and backrest, and structures like the chassis and pneumatic rod.
