Executive Chair Office Chair Materials
Admin October 09, 2026
The common materials for executive chairs (boss chairs, big-man chairs) can be divided into three categories: upholstery materials, filling materials, and materials for other components, as detailed below:

I. Upholstery Materials
- Leather Upholstery: Primarily made of PU leather or genuine leather. PU leather is cost-effective, resembles genuine leather in appearance, is durable, and easy to clean. Genuine leather offers superior breathability but has limited color options (mostly classic colors like black and brown), is more expensive, and requires regular maintenance to prevent cracking.
- Mesh Upholstery: Woven from high-elasticity polyester fibers, it provides excellent breathability, making it suitable for summer or prolonged use. It comes in a variety of colors and has a modern look. However, the mesh holes can accumulate dust, requiring cleaning with a vacuum cleaner or soft brush, and debris embedded in the seat cushion may affect comfort.
- Fabric Upholstery: Such as linen-velvet fabric, primarily made of natural fibers or blends, it feels soft and skin-friendly, is eco-friendly and odorless, and is often used in high-end office settings to enhance style. However, it has weaker stain resistance, requires protection from liquid spills, and is more difficult to clean than leather.
II. Filling Materials
- Dacron Fiber: A chemical fiber filling that is fluffy and soft, effectively dispersing body pressure and suitable for users seeking a 'wrapped' feel. However, it tends to sag over time and requires regular fluffing to restore elasticity.
- Virgin Foam: Made from polyurethane, it has high density and strong resilience, offering better breathability than Dacron fiber. It provides stable support, promotes blood circulation, and alleviates fatigue from prolonged sitting. High-quality virgin foam can last 5-8 years and is the preferred choice for high-end executive chairs.
III. Materials for Other Components
- Chair Legs and Casters: Chair legs are often made of nylon (PA6), which is strong and lightweight. Casters are made of PA reinforced with glass fibers, supporting 360ยฐ omnidirectional rotation, being quiet and wear-resistant, and suitable for carpets or hard floors.
- Chair Base: Commonly made of metal (such as steel or aluminum alloy), it incorporates a mechanical explosion-proof mechanism (certified by SGS) that can withstand high pressure, preventing the risk of gas lift explosion and ensuring safety.
Material Selection Advice: If durability and ease of cleaning are priorities, choose leather. For breathability, opt for mesh. If you prefer a natural feel, consider fabric. Among filling materials, virgin foam offers the best overall performance. For other components, ensure they are certified for safety to guarantee long-term stability in use.
