ESD Office Chair

Admin October 08, 2026

An ESD office chair, also known as an anti-static chair, is a specialized chair designed to eliminate static electricity. It is suitable for use in electrostatic-sensitive environments such as electronic production workshops, laboratories, clean rooms, as well as data centers, medical equipment operation rooms, and precision instrument workshops.

Material and Resistance Characteristics

ESD office chairs utilize special materials to achieve anti-static functionality. The main materials include PP injection molding, anti-static PU/PVC leather, and PU foam, among others. Surface resistance value is a core indicator for measuring anti-static performance, typically ranging from 10โดฮฉ to 10โนฮฉ. Some models can extend to 10โถ - 10โนฮฉ, 10โท - 10โนฮฉ, or even cover a broader range of below 10โถฮฉ to 10ยนยนฮฉ. This resistance design ensures that static electricity can be effectively conducted away while avoiding the risk of current surges caused by excessively low resistance.

Static Electricity Dissipation Mechanism

ESD office chairs achieve static electricity dissipation through structural and material design:

  • Conductive casters: Form a conductive path when in contact with the ground, directing static electricity into the earth;
  • Metal chains: Some models are equipped with metal chains that hang down to the ground, serving as a backup conductive path;
  • Four-leg structure: Enhances conductive stability through contact with the ground via a metal frame.
    These designs collectively provide users with a low-resistance path, preventing the accumulation of static electricity on the human body or equipment.

Product Types and Functions

Based on material and purpose, ESD office chairs are categorized into the following types:

  • Anti-static leather chairs: Utilize PU/PVC fabric paired with conductive components, with seat dimensions up to 440ร—400mm, balancing comfort and anti-static performance;
  • Injection-molded chairs: Feature a surface resistivity of 10โดฮฉ to 10โถฮฉ, suitable for environments with high sensitivity to static electricity;
  • Foam chairs: Offer a height adjustment range of 460mm to 870mm, adaptable to clean rooms ranging from Class 100 to Class 10,000, meeting the needs of different workstations.
    Additionally, there are specialized types such as anti-static station chairs, plastic anti-static chairs, round chairs with five-star bases, and stainless steel anti-static chairs. Some high-end models are equipped with pneumatic height adjustment and backrest tilt functions. The height-adjustable chairs ensure continuous conductivity through conductive gas springs or by wrapping the exterior with a conductive layer/tape and grounding it.

Structural and Ergonomic Design

The frames of ESD office chairs are typically made of cold-rolled steel pipes or chrome-plated alloys, balancing strength and corrosion resistance. The backrest and seat designs conform to ergonomic principles, dispersing body pressure and reducing fatigue from prolonged sitting. Their load-bearing capacity has undergone rigorous testing to meet the demands of high-intensity use in industrial environments.
