Enterprise Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

Enterprise office chairs are chairs equipped for the convenience of work in daily work and social activities. They can be classified into narrow and broad senses, and their safety risks need to be taken seriously.

Classification and Definition

OfficeMate classifies office chairs into narrow and broad senses. In the narrow sense, it refers to the backrest chairs used by people when performing desk work in a sitting position. In the broad sense, it includes all chairs used in offices, such as executive chairs and staff chairs. Among them, the boss chair is a type of computer chair, usually used by enterprise managers for office work, and some home studies are also equipped with it.

Structure and Materials

The boss chair structure consists of eight basic components, including rollers, a five-star base, a gas lift, and a chassis. The gas lift is the core component for adjusting the seat height. Common materials include leather and mesh. Leather models are mostly made of PU leather or genuine leather and are mainly used for executive chairs and mid-level chairs. Mesh models, due to their good breathability, are commonly found in junior chairs and are suitable for summer use. Early boss chairs were mainly leather-based, and later gradually evolved into a variety of materials such as mesh. Some products also use solid wood or plastic.

Development History

Office chairs originally evolved from Windsor chairs. Thomas Jefferson transformed them into swivel chairs, Charles Robert Darwin added wheels, and Thomas Warren invented an office chair with a rotatable, sliding, and elastic seat surface in 1849.

Design Features

The design focuses on sitting and lying comfort, meeting the support needs of the waist and head, while also serving as a symbol of professional image. On the market, there are brands such as Xia Mu, Herman Miller, and Sihoo that emphasize ergonomic design.

Safety Issues

Enterprise office chairs have some safety issues. For example, if the quality of the gas lift is unqualified, it may cause an explosion. Some products have problems such as excessive formaldehyde emissions and unqualified flame retardancy. On March 2, 2023, the United States and Canada recalled office chairs made in China due to the risk of the backrest breaking and causing falls. On September 30, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation found that 15 batches of office chairs failed the national supervision and inspection, with stability problems being prominent. On January 16, 2025, the United States recalled the WorkPro Momentum office chairs made in China due to the risk of bolt failure and falling.
