Electrophoretic Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

Electrophoretic technology is widely applied in the surface treatment of metal frames for office chairs, primarily to enhance corrosion resistance and surface hardness, thereby extending service life.

Electrophoretic technology is a coating technique that uses an electric field to direct the migration and deposition of charged paint particles onto metal surfaces. It is commonly used for the surface treatment of office chair metal frames, such as steel frames and cold-rolled welded steel pipes. Its core advantages are reflected in the following aspects:

1. Significantly Improved Corrosion Resistance
The electrophoretic coating forms a uniform and dense protective film that effectively isolates the metal substrate from air, moisture, and corrosive substances. For example, after electrophoretic treatment, the corrosion resistance of steel frames can reach the 5H hardness standard specified in the national standard GB/T 6739-2006. This standard is typically used to evaluate the coating's resistance to mechanical damage, indirectly reflecting the bond strength between the coating and the substrate as well as its anti-rust performance. In practical use, even in humid or salt-laden environments (such as coastal areas), electrophoretically treated frames can maintain their surface integrity for extended periods without rusting.

2. Enhanced Surface Hardness and Wear Resistance
The electrophoretic coating, once cured, exhibits high hardness, making it resistant to scratches and impacts during daily use. The 5H hardness standard indicates that the coating can withstand a certain degree of friction and impact, such as when an office chair is frequently moved or comes into contact with hard objects, leaving minimal marks on the surface. This characteristic is particularly important for mid- to high-end ergonomic office chairs, as their metal components (such as adjustment mechanisms and supports) need to withstand dynamic loads over long periods. Electrophoretic treatment ensures the stability of these functional components.

3. Broad Process Applicability
Electrophoretic technology is not only suitable for steel frames but also for other metal materials like cold-rolled welded steel pipes. Some mid- to high-end products combine electrophoretic + powder coating processes, first applying an electrophoretic anti-rust primer and then spraying a topcoat to enhance aesthetics and weather resistance. This composite process balances anti-rust performance with appearance quality, meeting the needs of different scenarios.

4. Long-Term Use Stability
The electrophoretic coating has a strong bond with the metal substrate, making it less prone to peeling due to temperature changes or fluctuations in environmental humidity. Compared to traditional spray painting processes, electrophoretic treatment avoids the risk of local corrosion caused by uneven coating thickness, ensuring that office chairs maintain their structural integrity and appearance quality over long-term use (e.g., 5-10 years).

In summary, electrophoretic technology has become the mainstream choice for the surface treatment of office chair metal frames by enhancing corrosion resistance, surface hardness, and process compatibility. It is particularly suitable for commercial or high-end home scenarios where durability is a key requirement.
