Disassembly of Electric Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

The disassembly of an electric office chair should be carried out according to its specific type and design. Below are the general disassembly steps and precautions:

I. Tool Preparation
Before disassembly, prepare tools such as screwdrivers (cross/flat-head), rubber mallets, pliers, and wrenches. The rubber mallet is used to strike and separate components, avoiding direct strikes with a metal hammer that could damage the paint surface; pliers are used to grip screws or clips; and wrenches are used to remove fixed bolts. If there are electrical connections (such as for an electrically adjustable backrest), disconnect the power supply in advance and record the cable positions.

II. General Disassembly Steps

  1. Base Separation
Place the chair upside down on a soft surface (such as a carpet) and use a rubber mallet to evenly strike around the bottom steel ring to loosen the connection between the base and the hydraulic rod. Then, grasp the edges of the base with both hands and pull upwards to separate it from the rod. If the connection is too tight, use a screwdriver to pry open the gap to assist in separation.

  2. Hydraulic Rod Removal
Use a screwdriver to remove the fixed screws at the connection between the seat and the hydraulic rod (usually located at the center of the bottom of the seat). Hold the upper part of the hydraulic rod with one hand and step on the metal base with the other foot, then gently strike the bottom of the rod with a rubber mallet to detach it from the base. Keep the rod vertical to avoid oil leakage from inside due to tilting.

  3. Disassembly of Other Components

    • Backrest and Seat Cushion Separation: For some chairs, you may need to first remove the fixed screws of the backrest (located on the back or side of the seat) and then separate the connection clips between the backrest and the seat cushion.
    • Gas Cylinder and Wheel Removal: If further disassembly is required, use a wrench to remove the fixed nut at the bottom of the gas cylinder and take out the gas cylinder; the wheels are usually fixed to the five-star base with clips and can be directly pulled out with force.
    • Special Handling for Gaming Chairs: For gaming chairs, first lay the chair down, remove the fixed screws at the bottom, separate the base from the seat, and finally use a rubber mallet to strike the top of the gas rod to loosen it.

III. Precautions

  1. Component Storage: During disassembly, keep all screws, clips, and other small components and store them in order by category to avoid loss and affect subsequent assembly.
  2. Avoid Violent Operations: Do not use a metal hammer to directly strike components to prevent paint scratches or structural deformation. If the connection is too tight, apply a small amount of lubricant to assist in separation.
  3. Circuit Handling: If the chair has electrically adjustable functions (such as backrest tilt and height adjustment), disconnect the power supply before disassembly and take photos to record the cable connection positions to avoid incorrect connections during assembly.
  4. Safety Protection: Wear gloves when disassembling the hydraulic rod or gas cylinder to prevent injury from internal high-pressure oil splashing.
