Dismantling Office Chair
Admin October 09, 2026
Dismantling an office chair can usually be carried out step by step according to parts such as the base, gas lift, and other components. Safety precautions should be taken during operation, and some difficult-to-dismantle parts can be left intact if not necessary.

Dismantling the Base
- Method 1: First, separate the backrest from the base and raise the gas lift to its highest position. Hold the seat cushion tightly with one hand and press the height adjustment lever with the other hand while gently shaking it several times. The base may then be dismantled. This method utilizes the lifting function of the gas lift and the adjustment of the lever, loosening the connection between the base and the gas lift through external shaking.
- Method 2: Turn the computer lift chair upside down and place it on its back. Use a rubber mallet to strike firmly around the bottom steel ring. After striking, try to pry the base. If unsuccessful, repeat the striking and prying actions. The elasticity of the rubber mallet reduces damage to the chair while loosening the connection between the base and the chair through striking.
Dismantling the Gas Lift
- Method 1: After successfully dismantling the base, invert the chair legs. Use a rubber mallet to strike the gas lift forcefully. If a rubber mallet is not available, a piece of wood can be used as a cushion before striking. This is because the gas lift is tightly connected to the chair legs, and external striking can loosen their connection, enabling dismantling.
- Method 2: Before striking the gas lift, first remove the top seat with a screwdriver. Then, use a hammer to strike the metal base plate forcefully, holding the hydraulic rod with one hand and stepping on it with the other foot. This combination of actions can dismantle the gas lift. This method requires a certain amount of strength and skill, and safety precautions should be taken during operation to avoid injury.
Dismantling Other Components
- Seat: The seat is usually fixed to the backrest and base with several screws. Use a screwdriver to remove these screws one by one, separating the seat from the backrest and base.
- Backrest and Armrests: Similarly, use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws connecting the backrest and armrests to the base, completing the dismantling.
It should be noted that some parts may be difficult to dismantle, such as the dismantling of the seat and gas rod, and the gas rod and chair legs. After prolonged use, the gas rod and chair legs may be tightly connected. If not absolutely necessary, try not to dismantle them. If dismantling is necessary, be sure to take safety precautions to avoid injury due to improper operation.
