Dismantling Office Chair Wheels
There are several methods for dismantling office chair wheels, and you can choose the appropriate one based on the connection status between the wheels and the chair:

Method 1: Using needle-nose pliers to pry
If the connection between the wheel and the chair's interface is tight, you can select needle-nose pliers as the tool. When operating, clamp the edge part of the interface between the wheel and the chair, find a suitable fulcrum, and then pry outward. During the prying process, you can rotate the wheel counterclockwise in coordination, using the lever principle to gradually separate the wheel from the chair. This method is suitable for situations where the wheel is generally undamaged and only has a tight connection due to long-term use. If there is a large resistance when prying, you can try adjusting the clamping position of the pliers to ensure the stability of the fulcrum and avoid tool slippage or damage to the wheel surface due to excessive force.
Method 2: For cases where the wheel's axle and plastic part separate
If the axle and plastic part of the wheel fall apart, but the axle is still attached to the chair without falling off, you need to continue looking for a new fulcrum to pry. At this time, you can clamp the upper part of the wheel's ring with the pliers, use the ring as a new fulcrum, and separate the remaining part from the chair through leverage. When operating, pay attention to controlling the force to avoid deforming the axle or damaging the chair's interface due to excessive force. If the ring part is thin, you can first wrap the tip of the pliers with a soft cloth to reduce scratches on the wheel.
Method 3: Using a flat-head screwdriver to remove the snap ring rod
Some office chair wheels are fixed with a snap ring rod, and you need to use a flat-head screwdriver for disassembly. Insert the tool into the gap between the wheel and the chair's interface, align it with the position of the snap ring rod, and pry hard to loosen and then remove the snap ring rod. This operation requires a certain amount of strength. If the user is female or has less strength, it is recommended to seek help from others to avoid tool damage or hand injuries due to improper force. Before disassembly, observe the structure of the snap ring rod. Usually, it has fixed clips at both ends, and you need to apply an outward thrust simultaneously when prying.
Precautions:
- It is recommended to wear gloves before operation to prevent hand injuries from tools or the edges of the wheels.
- If the wheel is difficult to dismantle due to aging or corrosion, you can first spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) on the interface and wait for 5-10 minutes before attempting the operation.
- After dismantling, check if the chair's interface is damaged. If the interface is deformed, repair it in a timely manner; otherwise, the new wheel may not be firmly installed.
