Disassembly of Solid Wood Office Chair
Admin October 13, 2026
The disassembly method for a solid wood office chair (assembled type) is as follows:

I. Preparations Before Disassembly
- Tool Preparation: Prepare a Phillips screwdriver (matching the screw size), a rubber mallet, and a soft cloth or pad (to protect the surface of the components).
- Environment Preparation: Choose a flat and spacious ground to prevent components from scattering or colliding; if the chair has cushions or fabric parts, remove them in advance to reduce interference.
- Component Protection: Solid wood is prone to cracking, so control the force during operation to avoid damage caused by violent disassembly.
II. Specific Disassembly Steps
Locate and Remove Screws
- Connection between Chair Legs and Seat Surface: Screws are usually hidden inside the chair legs or under the seat surface. Use a screwdriver to turn them counterclockwise to remove. If the screws are rusty, apply a small amount of lubricating oil to assist in removal.
- Connection between Backrest and Seat Surface: Check the bottom of the backrest or the back of the seat surface, find the fixing screws, and remove them one by one. Some designs may use hidden screws, so observe the gaps or flip open the fabric covering.
- Connection of Armrests: If the armrests are detachable, the screws may be located at the bottom of the armrests or at the junction with the chair legs, and need to be removed simultaneously.
Separate Mortise-and-Tenon Structures
- Tap the Fitting Areas: Mortise-and-tenon joints are used to fix the components. Use a rubber mallet to gently tap the edges of the connection areas (such as the junction between the chair legs and the seat surface) to gradually loosen the tenons. Note: The rubber mallet can reduce the impact force and prevent the solid wood from cracking; the tapping direction should be perpendicular to the connection surface with even force.
- Assisted Separation: If the tenons are tightly stuck, insert a flat tool (such as a plastic scraper) into the gap and gently pry to assist in separation, but avoid direct contact between metal tools and the wood.
Gradually Disassemble Other Components
- Separation of Chair Legs: If the chair legs are designed in a split type (such as the front legs and back legs connected by a crossbeam), first remove the crossbeam screws and then separate each leg.
- Disassembly of Backrest: Some backrests are made up of multiple wooden boards spliced together. Check for hidden screws or wooden nails inside and disassemble them layer by layer in order.
III. Post-Disassembly Handling
- Classified Storage of Components: Store small parts such as screws and tenons separately to avoid loss; group and place the solid wood components according to their structures to prevent confusion.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Wipe the dust on the surface of the components with a soft cloth and check for wear or cracks to provide a reference for subsequent assembly or repair.
Key Tips: Disassembling a solid wood office chair requires patience and meticulousness, especially when handling mortise-and-tenon structures. Force control is the key to preventing cracking. If the purpose of disassembly is for repair or transportation, it is recommended to take photos to record the original structure for easy restoration.
