Disassembly and Assembly of Office Chair Casters
Admin October 11, 2026
The disassembly and assembly of office chair casters can be carried out according to the following steps:

I. Disassembly Steps
- Preparation and Flipping: Flip the office chair upside down so that the seat faces downward. First, check whether the casters are of a snap-fit design. Such designs usually do not require tools; you can simply pull them out by hand. If the casters are tightly stuck, you can use a flat-head screwdriver or pliers to assist in the disassembly. When operating, place a soft cloth between the tool and the bracket to avoid scratching the surface. Align the gap between the caster and the chair interface and gently pry until they are completely separated.
- Cleaning Debris: Place the removed casters on a table and check the gaps in the bearings one by one for hair and debris. Use tweezers to pick out long hair or fibers along the direction of caster rotation to prevent further entanglement. Then, use an old toothbrush dipped in a small amount of neutral detergent to gently brush the surface of the casters and the gaps in the bearings to remove dust and grease. Finally, rinse with water (be careful to avoid water getting into the bearings), dry with a dry cloth, and let them air-dry for 10 minutes.
II. Assembly Steps
- Lubrication and Repositioning: After the casters are completely dry, drip 1-2 drops of special lubricating oil for office equipment (do not use cooking oil to prevent dust absorption) onto the bearings. Manually rotate the casters to evenly distribute the lubricating oil and reduce friction.
- Installing the Casters: Align the casters with the bracket snaps and push them in vertically until you hear a "click" sound to confirm that they are securely installed. If the snaps are tight, you can press a little harder or gently tap the edge of the wheels with a hammer (protect it with a soft cloth) to ensure they are fully embedded.
- Testing the Movement: Flip the chair back to the upright position, push the chair to slide and rotate the wheels, and check whether they move smoothly without any stuttering. If there is still resistance, you need to re-check whether there is any residual debris in the bearings or add more lubricating oil.
Precautions:
- Avoid using excessive force during disassembly to prevent damage to the bracket snap structure.
- Ensure that the casters are completely dry during the cleaning process to prevent rust caused by water residue.
- Choose a special type of lubricating oil to avoid oil that is too thick or attracts dust.
- If the wheels are loose after installation, you need to re-disassemble and adjust the position of the snaps.
