Disassembly and Assembly of Office Chairs

Admin October 12, 2026

To disassemble and assemble an office chair, you need to understand its structure and master the correct steps. Here are the specific methods:

Installation Steps

  1. Install from the bottom up: First, attach the casters to the chair legs, ensuring they are firmly installed. Then, vertically place the gas lift into the center of the chair legs. The gas lift is an important component for adjusting the chair's height, so make sure it is placed vertically to avoid problems during subsequent use.
  2. Secure the base and seat: Use screws to fix the base to the seat. When tightening the screws, apply moderate force to ensure a tight connection between the base and the seat, but avoid over-tightening, which could cause the screws to strip.
  3. Connect the backrest and seat: After the seat is installed, connect the backrest to the seat. Pay attention to whether the clips or screws at the connection points are properly installed to ensure the stability of the backrest.
  4. Install the base plate: Vertically insert the base plate onto the gas lift, ensuring a smooth connection between the base plate and the gas lift so that it can be raised and lowered normally.
  5. Install the armrests and headrest: Finally, install the armrests and headrest. Use the appropriate screws or clips according to the chair's design for fixation.

Disassembly Steps

  1. Prepare tools: A basic tool kit should include Phillips and flat-head screwdrivers, wrenches (including socket wrenches), a rubber mallet, staple pliers, a pry bar or plastic pry tool, a cloth, and penetrating oil. For certain specific structures, you may also need an Allen wrench or an electric drill.
  2. Disassemble in order: Loosen the screws of other parts in the reverse order of installation. The more difficult parts to disassemble are the separation of the seat and the gas lift, as well as the separation of the gas lift and the chair legs.
  3. Remove the base plate: First, separate the backrest. Raise the gas lift to its highest position. Hold the seat with one hand and press the height adjustment lever with the other hand. Shake it a few times to remove it.
  4. Remove the gas lift: Turn the chair legs upside down. It is best to use a rubber mallet to knock it out. If you don't have a rubber mallet, you can use a wooden board as a cushion to avoid directly hitting the chair legs with a hard object and causing damage.

Precautions: Ensure a safe and stable working environment before operation. When disassembling, first observe the overall structure of the chair, clarify how each part is fixed, act gently and cautiously, avoid using brute force. It is recommended to wear gloves and place the disassembled parts in an orderly manner using a cloth pad.
