Disassembly and Assembly of Office Chairs

Admin October 08, 2026

The disassembly and assembly of office chairs should be carried out according to standardized procedures. The specific steps and precautions are as follows:

Installation Steps

  1. Assemble the Chair Base and Gas Lift: Install the casters one by one onto the chair base, ensuring the clips are in place; vertically insert the gas lift into the center hole of the chair base and keep it stable.
  2. Secure the Seat Plate to the Seat: Use a screwdriver to fix the seat plate to the bottom of the seat with screws, paying attention to the tightness of the screws to avoid loosening.
  3. Connect the Backrest to the Seat: Connect the backrest to the seat using the preset clips or screws, ensuring there are no gaps at the connection points; vertically insert the assembled upper body into the top of the gas lift.
  4. Install the Armrests and Headrest: Depending on the chair model, fix the armrests to both sides of the seat with screws; install the headrest onto the top of the backrest using clips or screws, adjusting it to a comfortable angle.

Disassembly Steps

  1. Separate the Backrest from the Base: First, loosen the fixing screws or clips of the backrest and separate it from the seat; raise the gas lift to its highest position, hold the seat cushion with one hand, press the lift lever with the other hand, and shake to gradually remove the base.
  2. Remove the Gas Lift: Invert the chair base and gently tap the bottom of the gas lift with a rubber mallet (or tap after placing a wooden board underneath) to separate it from the chair base; if the clips are too tight, spray a loosening agent to assist in disassembly.
  3. Disassemble Other Components: Loosen the screws in the reverse order of installation to separate components such as armrests and headrests; use a plastic pry bar to gently pry open clip connections to avoid scratching the surface.

General Precautions

  1. Tool Preparation: Prepare a complete set of tools including a cross/flat-head screwdriver, wrench, rubber mallet, staple pliers, pry bar, cloth, and loosening agent to ensure smooth operation.
  2. Safe Operation:
    • Operate on a stable surface and wear anti-slip gloves to prevent parts from slipping and causing injury;
    • Do not directly tap the gas lift during disassembly to prevent the internal high-pressure gas from spraying out;
    • For chairs that have been used for a long time, the gas lift and chair base may be tightly adhered, requiring patience and avoiding forced pulling.
  3. Part Management: Use a cloth to categorize and place disassembled small parts such as screws and clips to avoid loss; observe the fixing methods of components (screws, clips, or pins) and mark difficult positions for easy reassembly.
  4. Maintenance Suggestions: Regularly check the tightness of screws, clean the moving parts of the gas lift, and apply lubricant to extend the service life of the chair.

Tip: If you lack experience or the components are severely aged, it is recommended to contact a professional for handling to avoid damage or safety hazards caused by improper operation.
