Disassembly and Assembly of Office Chairs

Admin October 09, 2026

The disassembly and assembly of office chairs can be carried out according to the following steps, with attention paid to the order of operations and component protection:

Assembly Steps

  1. Identify Components
An office chair typically consists of parts such as chair legs, casters, gas lift, base, seat, backrest, armrests, and headrest. Before assembly, check that all components are present and inspect for any damage (e.g., gas lift leakage, loose casters).

  2. Assemble from the Bottom Up

    • Install Casters and Chair Legs: Insert each caster vertically into the slots on the chair legs, ensuring the clips are fully locked to prevent detachment during use.
    • Secure the Gas Lift: Insert the gas lift vertically into the center hole of the chair legs, ensuring the bottom fits snugly against the legs. Keep the gas lift upright to avoid damaging the internal seals by tilting.
    • Attach the Base to the Seat: Use a screwdriver to secure the base to the bottom of the seat, ensuring the screws are tightened to prevent separation between the base and seat.
    • Assemble the Backrest and Seat: Insert the connecting rod of the backrest into the slot or screw hole on the back of the seat and secure it with the provided screws. Some backrests connect to the seat via clips; press firmly until you hear a 'click'.
    • Install Armrests and Headrest: Secure the armrests to the sides of the seat with screws and insert the headrest into the้ข„็•™ๅญ” (pre-drilled hole) at the top of the backrest, adjusting it to the desired height.
  3. Function Test
After assembly, check that the gas lift raises and lowers smoothly, the casters rotate freely, and the backrest tilt function operates correctly, ensuring all components are securely connected.

Disassembly Steps

  1. Reverse the Assembly Order
When disassembling, follow the 'last assembled, first disassembled' principle, starting with the armrests and headrest and working downward.

  2. Separate the Backrest and Seat
Use a screwdriver to remove the screws connecting the backrest and seat, or press the clips to separate them. Skip this step if the backrest and seat are integrated.

  3. Remove the Base and Gas Lift

    • Detach the Seat: Raise the gas lift to its highest point, press the height adjustment lever with one hand, and shake the seat bottom with the other to separate the base from the gas lift.
    • Remove the Gas Lift: Invert the chair legs and lightly tap the top of the gas lift with a rubber mallet to dislodge it from the legs. If a rubber mallet is unavailable, place a wooden board between the gas lift and legs and tap the board with a regular hammer to avoid deforming the legs.
  4. Disassemble Other Components
Remove the armrests, headrest, base, and other components in sequence, storing screws and small parts separately to prevent loss.

Precautions:

  • Wear gloves during operations to avoid cuts or pinches.
  • The gas lift contains high-pressure gas; do not puncture it with sharp tools or expose it to high temperatures to prevent explosions.
  • For chairs used long-term, rusted screws may make disassembly difficult; apply lubricant in advance to assist.
