Cleaning a Dirty Office Chair Seat

Admin October 11, 2026

When the seat of an office chair is dirty, it is necessary to choose the appropriate cleaning method based on the material. Here is a detailed introduction:

Mesh Office Chairs

  • Basic Cleaning: First, use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly remove dust, ensuring there are no large particles of debris on the surface.
  • Cleaning Agent Treatment: Dilute the cleaning agent or pour it directly into a watering can, then evenly spray it on the chair. Allow the cleaning agent to sit for a while to break down the stains.
  • Deep Cleaning: You can use a sauna machine and a high-temperature cleaning machine alternately, performing at least two rounds of extraction cleaning. At the same time, use a water extractor to dry the cleaned areas to speed up the drying process. Alternatively, you can use a soft brush dipped in soapy water to gently scrub the stains, wipe with a damp cloth, and then absorb the moisture with a dry cloth. Or, use a specialized cleaning agent in combination with a brush; in some cases, a soft-bristled toothbrush may be more suitable. After cleaning, gently absorb the moisture with a tissue and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Fabric Office Chairs

  • Common Stains: Use a soft cloth dipped in a cleaning solution of neutral soap and warm water to gently wipe. Be careful not to over-wet to avoid damaging the internal structure.
  • Stubborn Stains: First, sprinkle baking soda and let it sit for 15 minutes, then clean it up with a vacuum cleaner. Removable fabric covers can be machine-washed according to the label instructions, while fixed ones should be manually wiped locally. When cleaning, do not scrub directly with a brush; only wipe gently with a damp cloth. If dirty, you can use a diluted cleaning agent, but be sure to rinse with water and then wipe off the moisture.

Leather Office Chairs

  • Daily Cleaning: First, remove dust with a soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner, then gently wipe with a specialized cleaning agent or a 1:1 diluted white vinegar solution (test in a hidden area first).
  • Special Stains: For oil stains or ink marks, use a cotton swab dipped in a small amount of alcohol to quickly wipe, avoiding prolonged contact between the alcohol and the leather.
  • Subsequent Maintenance: After wiping, apply a maintenance agent. Do not expose to sunlight, and avoid using harsh cleaning products such as turpentine or gasoline. You can also use a soft towel to wipe off dust. If there are stains on the surface, gently wipe with a damp cloth and then wipe off the surface moisture. The exposed parts are best air-dried naturally.

PU Material Office Chairs

If the armrests of the chair are made of this material, cleaning is easy and convenient. Simply wipe gently with a damp cloth, and most stains can be removed. If necessary, you can also use a leather cleaner or leather brightener for deep cleaning and maintenance.

Cleaning Precautions: After cleaning, place the chair in a well-ventilated area to air-dry naturally. Do not expose to sunlight. Avoid scrubbing the surface of the chair vigorously. Do not wipe wooden or iron chair legs directly with a damp cloth.
