Deformation of Office Chair Legs

Admin October 16, 2026

The handling of deformation in office chair legs should be based on the degree of deformation and material properties, with specific methods as follows:

1. Mild Deformation (e.g., caused by transportation compression)

If the chair legs exhibit slight deformation due to external pressure, resulting in a slight tilt or instability of the chair, physical correction can be used to restore the structure. The procedure involves placing the chair flat on a hard, level surface and using your hands or a heavy object to gently press on the connection points of the chair legs (such as metal brackets or plastic joints). Ensure even pressure to avoid localized excessive force that could cause secondary damage. For example, if one side of the chair leg tilts outward, apply inward pressure to the connection point on that side, hold for a few seconds, then release. Repeat 2-3 times until the structure is flat. This method is suitable for metal or high-strength plastic chair legs, but care must be taken to control the force to avoid over-correction and breakage.

2. Severe Deformation (e.g., fractures or structural damage)

If the chair legs are severely deformed (e.g., fractures, bending angles exceeding 10ยฐ or inability to bear weight), it is recommended to stop using the chair immediately and contact after-sales service for handling. Attempting self-repair may reduce structural strength and pose safety risks. For example, if a nylon chair leg fractures due to prolonged pressure, a professional should replace it with a leg of the same material; if a metal chair leg deforms due to rust, check if the connecting screws are loose and replace the entire bracket assembly if necessary.

3. Gradual Deformation Due to Prolonged Pressure (e.g., nylon chair legs)

Nylon chair legs, due to their low elastic modulus, may exhibit gradual deformation of 1-3mm after prolonged weight-bearing, causing the seat to tilt. It is recommended to check the seat tilt with a level every six months: if the error exceeds the safety standard of 3ยฐ, first check if the gas lift is leaking or sinking. If the gas lift is normal, replace the seat or chair leg components. For example, the user manual of a certain brand of office chair specifies that when the seat tilt exceeds 3ยฐ, the seat must be replaced with one that meets the EN 1335 standard to ensure ergonomic safety.

Precautions: Wear gloves when correcting chair legs to avoid cuts from metal burrs; if the chair is equipped with a gas lift, lock its height before correction to prevent sudden seat movement during operation.
