Handling of Defective Office Chairs

Admin October 22, 2026

The handling of defective office chairs requires targeted measures based on specific issues, mainly divided into two categories: tilting problems and surface defects. The specific methods are as follows:

I. Steps for Handling an Office Chair Tilted to One Side

  1. Check the Wheel Status
    Place the chair upright and upside down to observe whether all wheels are in contact with the ground. If the ground is uneven causing the tilt, change the placement location; if the wheels are not all in contact, turn the chair upside down to check each wheel foot for signs of damage (such as bending or breaking). Wheel damage may be caused by uneven weight distribution, manufacturing defects, or long-term wear and tear.

  2. Replace Damaged Wheels
    If damaged wheels are found, purchase matching new wheels:

  • Contact the manufacturer to provide the model number for ordering original wheel feet;
  • After removing the old wheels, take them to an office supplies store to match replacement sets, ensuring the shape and size of the wheel axles are consistent.
  1. Remove Old Casters
  • Grasp the caster wheel and the bottom of the chair with your hands and pull firmly;
  • If it cannot be pulled out, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the wheel foot and the chair contact point as a lever and operate slowly, pulling out about 1 centimeter before pulling again;
  • In rare cases, the casters are fixed with screws, and you need to loosen the screws with a screwdriver before removing them.
  1. Lubricate and Install New Wheels
  • Apply a small amount of spray lubricant (such as WD-40) on the chair base socket, or use petroleum jelly as an alternative;
  • Use a rubber mallet to tap the new caster into the socket, ensuring the rod is fully inserted into the base, and avoid tapping the center of the wheel directly to reduce the risk of breakage.
  1. Test and Further Inspection
    Turn the chair upside down and sit on it to test whether it is stable. If it is still tilted, check whether the seat plate is damaged (such as deformation or breakage).

II. Repair Methods for Scratches and Dents on the Surface of an Office Chair

  1. Scratch Classification and Repair
  • Minor scratches (only the surface finish is damaged): Sand with fine sandpaper, then use a touch-up pen that matches the furniture color to fill in the color, and finally apply a clear varnish.
  • Moderate scratches (reaching the base material but not indented): Require touch-up painting and sanding for better results.
  1. Dent Classification and Repair
  • Minor dents (small depressions or paint chipping at the corners): Restore by filling (such as using wood shavings mixed with glue for solid wood) and touch-up painting.
  • Moderate dents (panel damage): Require professional repair or replacement of parts.
  1. Repair Differences for Different Materials
  • Solid wood furniture: For minor scratches, sand and then touch up the color; for moderate dents, clean up the debris, fill with wood shavings and glue, sand, touch up the color, paint, and polish.
  • Panel furniture: For peeling veneer, cut the same type of veneer, stick it with special glue, and press it with an iron; for deep scratches on painted furniture, fill with putty, spray with primer and topcoat, and then polish.
