Custom Office Chair Cutting
The cutting of custom office chairs requires following key steps such as layout planning, fabric pre-shrinking, precise cutting, and detail handling to ensure the quality and functionality of the finished product.

Layout Planning
Before cutting, design patterns should be digitized using computer-aided design (CAD/CAM) software to optimize fabric utilization to 85%-92%. For fabrics with directional patterns or stripes, precise alignment is necessary during layout to ensure symmetry on both sides of the seat and avoid visual discrepancies. This step directly affects material costs and the aesthetic appeal of the finished product.Fabric Selection and Pre-shrinking Treatment
Common fabrics include high-stretch polyester-spandex blends, flocked fabrics, genuine leather, or high-quality PU leather. Pre-shrinking treatment is required before cutting:
- Natural Shrinkage: Allow the fabric to shrink naturally by placing it in an environment with a temperature of 25-30โ and humidity of 60%-65%;
- Mechanical Pre-shrinking: Use a pre-shrinking machine to treat the fabric at a high temperature of 100-120โ to eliminate internal fiber stress.
Pre-shrinking prevents dimensional changes or surface wrinkling in the finished product due to shrinkage, which is particularly crucial for natural materials like genuine leather.
- Cutting Operations
- Multi-layer Cutting: Electric scissors or automatic cutting beds can be used to cut dozens of layers of fabric at once, with a speed of 6-12 meters per minute and precision controlled within ยฑ1mm, suitable for standardized component production;
- Single-layer Cutting: Natural materials like leather require manual operation, with visual inspection to avoid defects (such as insect bites or scars) and ensure consistent quality of each piece;
- Advantages of Smart Equipment: Traditional manual cutting is prone to errors of more than 2mm between layers due to fabric slippage, while laser or CNC cutting beds can achieve one-to-one precise shaping, improving assembly efficiency and structural stability.
- Detail Handling
Cutting should reserve space for the installation of adjustable functional components, such as:
- Lumbar Support Adjustment: An elastic area or opening should be reserved in the back fabric to ensure flexible movement of the support structure;
- Seat Depth Sliding: The seat cushion fabric should be cut into a telescopic structure, cooperating with a slide rail to achieve a 5-10cm adjustment range;
- Armrest Lifting: The side fabric should reserve a hinge installation position and reinforce the edge against tearing.
In addition, all cutting edges should be sealed (e.g., with hot-melt adhesive edging) to prevent fabric unraveling or exposed frayed edges.
Through the above process, the cutting of custom office chairs can balance efficiency, precision, and functionality to meet the needs of different scenarios.
