Cosm Office Chair
The Cosm office chair is an ergonomic seat designed by Berlin design studio Studio 7.5 for Herman Miller, featuring unique design and functional characteristics, while also having certain limitations and receiving multiple awards.

Design Background and Debut: The Cosm office chair was designed by Berlin design studio Studio 7.5 specifically for Herman Miller. It made its debut at the Salone Del Mobile in Milan in 2018, showcasing cutting-edge design concepts and ergonomic research findings.
Functional Characteristics:
- Automatic Tilt Adjustment Technology: Utilizing Auto-Harmonic tilt technology, it requires no manual operation and automatically adjusts the angle according to the user's posture changes, providing a smooth sitting experience.
- Human Structure Molding Design: Through precise human structure molding, it eliminates the gap between the back and the seat surface, ensuring a fit to the body's curves and enhancing support and comfort.
- Flexible Frame and Woven Material: The frame is thin yet sturdy, combined with woven material, ensuring both the durability of the seat and improved breathability and comfort.
- Multiple Armrest Options: It offers three choices of armrests: fixed armrests, height-adjustable armrests, and blade-style armrests, meeting the personalized needs of different users.
- Special Woven Fabric and Chassis: The fabric uses a special elastic suspension material, providing a soft sitting feel and excellent breathability; the chassis is the same as that of the AERON, a dual-fiberglass chassis that provides stable support without sagging when leaning back.
Disadvantages and Limitations:
- Weight Limitation: People weighing less than 45 kilograms may find it difficult to lean back when sitting, making it potentially unsuitable for lighter users.
- Limited Adjustment Functions: Some customers believe that the adjustment functions are limited and cannot meet the needs of more usage scenarios.
Suitable Scenarios and User Groups: It is more suitable for light office work and leisure use, applicable to office workers who sit for three to four hours a day and pursue minimalist comfort.
Honors and Recognition: The Cosm office chair has received numerous honors, including the 2019 German Red Dot Design Award, the 2019 Time Magazine's Top 100 Best Inventions of the Year list, and the 2020 iF World Design Award Gold Award in the Office and Industrial category. Additionally, research conducted by Herman Miller in collaboration with the Ergonomics Technology Center at Texas A&M University shows that the high-back Cosm seat helps reduce stress levels in users, improving decision-making speed and neural efficiency.
