Correct Posture for Boys in Office Chairs
Admin October 12, 2026
Boys should follow the following key points for the correct posture in office chairs to balance health and efficiency:

I. Basic Sitting Posture Norms
- Chair-sitting ratio: It is recommended to sit two-thirds of the way into the chair, avoiding sitting completely back which can cause the torso to lean back and form a hunchback, or sitting only on the edge which can lead to a lack of support and a hanging waist.
- Body posture:
- Spinal neutrality: Keep the upper body straight, the waist naturally arched, and the back either lightly leaning against the chair back or kept upright, so that the upper body forms a right angle (90ยฐ) with the chair surface, avoiding leaning forward or backward.
- Relaxed shoulders: Let the shoulders hang naturally, avoiding shrugging or reaching forward with the shoulders to reduce tension in the neck and upper back muscles.
II. Lower Limb and Foot Placement
- Leg angle: Bend the knees at about 90ยฐ, keeping the thighs parallel to the ground, avoiding excessive knee flexion or extension.
- Foot position: Place both feet flat on the ground, with the legs separated by about a fist's distance (about 10-15 cm), avoiding excessive splaying or crossing (such as crossing the legs), to maintain a neutral pelvic position.
III. Hand and Upper Limb Management
- Arm posture: Place them naturally on the thighs or fold them in front of the body; if operating a keyboard/mouse is required, bend the elbows at 90ยฐ-100ยฐ, with the forearms parallel to the desktop, avoiding prolonged placement on the knees which can cause shoulder and neck fatigue.
- Avoid incorrect movements: Reduce postures such as crossing the arms over the chest or propping up the chin to prevent spinal scoliosis or restricted breathing.
IV. Health and Etiquette Advantages
- Physical health: Correct sitting posture can disperse spinal pressure, promote lower limb blood circulation, reduce tension in the lumbar and cervical muscles, and reduce the feeling of fatigue from prolonged sitting.
- Social etiquette: In formal occasions or business meetings, an upright sitting posture appears confident and appropriate, and makes it easier to quickly get up and respond to others.
V. Key Points for Coordination between Office Desks and Chairs (Suitable for long-term office work)
- Height matching: Adjust the chair height so that when the feet are flat on the ground, the knees are bent at 90ยฐ; if the feet cannot touch the ground, a footrest is required.
- Chair back angle: Tilt the chair back at 100ยฐ-110ยฐ to support the third and fourth lumbar vertebrae (the most curved part of the waist). A lumbar support or a rolled-up towel can be used to fill the gap between the sacrum and the chair back to maintain a natural curve.
- Seat cushion design: The length of the seat cushion should cover two-thirds to three-quarters of the thighs, with the front end not pressing on the back of the knees (the popliteal fossa) to avoid affecting blood return.
Other precautions: Avoid habits such as crossing the legs or shaking the legs, as these actions can exacerbate pelvic tilt and spinal scoliosis; if using an ergonomic chair, adjust the height of the headrest, lumbar support, and armrests according to body shape to ensure comprehensive support for the head, neck, shoulders, waist, and hips.
