Company Replaces Office Chairs
ByteDance launched a centralized office chair replacement plan for its domestic workplaces in August 2026, replacing the previously used American brand Humanscale with the S1 ergonomic chair from the domestic brand LiberNovo. The plan is set to continue until the second quarter of 2027, covering major workplaces in China, including Beijing Fangheng, Dazhong Temple, and Shanghai Xinjiangwan.

Replacement Background and Core Reasons
This replacement is primarily based on two considerations:
- Consistent Experience: Previously, different workplaces used office chairs of varying brands and models, leading to inconsistent employee experiences. By uniformly replacing them with the LiberNovo S1, a standardized office environment across the country can be ensured.
- Functional Optimization: The original Humanscale office chairs were reported by employees to have comfort issues, such as the inability to lock the backrest, which affected long-term office efficiency. The LiberNovo S1 has been improved to address these pain points, retaining core designs such as adjustable neck pillows, multi-angle lockable backrests, breathable seat cushions, and armrests that move in tandem with the backrest to adapt to different sitting postures. It also strengthens lumbar support and dynamic adjustment functions, better meeting ergonomic needs.
Product Selection and Characteristics
As the basic model of the LiberNovo brand, the LiberNovo S1 has the following features:
- Core Function Retention: The neck pillow is height-adjustable, the backrest supports multi-angle locking, the seat cushion is made of breathable material, and the armrests move in tandem with the backrest to adapt to different sitting postures.
- Cost-Effectiveness Advantage: With a publicly referenced price of approximately 2499 yuan, it offers better cost-effectiveness compared to the original brand while meeting basic office needs.
- Internal Validation: Before the replacement, ByteDance conducted a small-scale experimental vote, considering employee feedback and product performance, and ultimately selected this model.
Supporting Service Upgrades
To improve replacement efficiency, the office furniture installation model was upgraded from "single-step on-site service" to "removal, delivery, and installation integrated service" in 2026. A team of professional technicians is responsible for the entire process of removing old chairs, delivering new chairs, and installing them, reducing time spent on intermediate steps and ensuring a quick restoration of office order in the workplace.
Implementation Scope and Timeline
The replacement plan was initiated in August 2026 and is being rolled out in batches by workplace, with an expected completion of coverage in major workplaces across the country by the second quarter of 2027. This move not only reflects the company's emphasis on employee health and experience but also demonstrates the increased competitiveness of domestic office furniture in terms of functional design and service models.
