Company Office Chair Broken

Admin October 09, 2026

When a company office chair breaks, it is necessary to first determine the cause of the damage and then handle it according to the situation. Common types of damage have specific repair methods. During the warranty period, you can contact the manufacturer, and regular maintenance is required in daily use.

Determining the Cause of Damage and Handling Methods

  • Intentional Damage: If an office chair is damaged intentionally by an employee, according to Article 49 of the Public Security Administration Punishment Law of the People's Republic of China, the employee not only has to compensate for the chair but may also face corresponding penalties.
  • Normal Wear and Tear or Accidental Damage: In such cases, employees are usually not required to compensate. However, the company may, in accordance with internal regulations or labor contracts, require employees to bear part of the repair costs.

Common Types of Damage and Repair Methods

  • Gas Cylinder Subsidence: This affects the chair's height adjustment function. Check if the gas cylinder is leaking. If there is a problem, the gas cylinder needs to be replaced.
  • Wheel Jamming: This causes the chair to move unsmoothly. Check if there are any foreign objects stuck in the wheels. Clear the foreign objects or replace the jammed wheels. If the chair is tilted, also check if the wheels are uneven or damaged. If necessary, replace the entire set of matching wheels.
  • Backrest or Armrest Breakage: This affects comfort and safety. If the breakage is not severe, try to repair it with glue or professional repair tools. If the breakage is severe, the backrest or armrest needs to be replaced. If the backrest cannot stand upright, it may be a hydraulic system failure. Check the transmission components and replace the fixing screws.
  • Seat Cushion Collapse: This reduces comfort. Check if the internal filling of the seat cushion has shifted or is damaged. Refill or replace the seat cushion.
  • Loose Screws: This makes the chair structure unstable. Use a screwdriver to tighten the loose screws.

Handling During the Warranty Period

If the office chair is still within the warranty period, you can contact the manufacturer, provide purchase documents, the chair model, and other information, and handle it in accordance with the warranty terms. The manufacturer generally provides free repair or replacement services.

Daily Maintenance Methods

Regularly check components such as the gas cylinder, wheels, and screws on a daily basis to see if there are any signs of looseness or damage. Clean and tighten them in a timely manner. This can extend the service life of the office chair.
