Accounting Treatment of Company Office Chairs

Admin October 16, 2026

The accounting category to which company office chairs belong needs to be determined based on their value, useful life, and the company's accounting policies. They may be recorded under administrative expenses - office expenses, low-value consumables, or fixed assets. Details are as follows:

If the cost of office chairs is relatively low, meaning the unit price or the purchase amount for a single batch is small, and the company's accounting policies do not require capitalization, they can be directly recorded under the administrative expenses - office expenses category. In this case, office chairs are regarded as daily office consumables, and their costs are directly recorded as current expenses when incurred, without capitalization, to simplify accounting operations and reflect actual operating costs.

If the unit price or the total price for a single batch of office chairs is within the company's specified limit, usually below 2000 yuan, and their expected useful life does not exceed one year, they can be classified as low-value consumables. Low-value consumables refer to labor materials with a unit value below the specified limit or a useful life of less than one year, but which can be used multiple times while maintaining their physical form. For such assets, companies typically adopt methods such as one-time write-off or five-fifths write-off, recording their full or partial value as current costs and expenses when they are issued.

If the unit price of office chairs exceeds the company's set capitalization threshold, which is often 2000 yuan for many companies, and their expected useful life exceeds one year, they need to be recorded under the fixed assets category, with monthly depreciation. Fixed assets refer to tangible assets held by a company for the production of goods, provision of services, leasing, or business management, with a useful life exceeding one accounting year. For such assets, companies need to calculate monthly depreciation in accordance with specified depreciation methods and useful lives to reflect the gradual consumption of their value during use.

In addition, from a broad definition, office chairs encompass all chairs used in offices, including executive chairs, mid-level chairs, reception chairs, staff chairs, conference chairs, visitor chairs, training chairs, ergonomic chairs, etc. Although these chairs have different functions, they all need to be classified and accounted for according to the above principles in accounting treatment.
