Cleaning Office Chairs

Admin October 19, 2026

Cleaning office chairs can be carried out in steps such as cleaning the wheels, cleaning the chair body, and removing stains, while also paying attention to cleaning frequency, tool selection, and other matters.

Cleaning the Wheels

  1. Disassembling the Wheels: Turn the office chair upside down, hold the wheel bracket with your hand, and pull out the wheel. If it is stuck, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edge of the buckle.
  2. Removing Debris: Use tweezers to pick out hair and other debris from the gaps. Use an old toothbrush dipped in neutral detergent to scrub the surface and the bearing gaps, then rinse with clean water (avoid getting water into the bearings). After wiping dry, ventilate and air-dry for 10 minutes.
  3. Lubricating and Reassembling: Drop 1 - 2 drops of special lubricating oil for office equipment onto the bearings, rotate the wheels to distribute the oil evenly, align them with the bracket buckles, and push them in. Listen for a "click" sound to confirm that they are installed firmly. Turn the chair back upright and test for smoothness. If there is any stuttering, check for debris.

Cleaning the Chair Body

  1. Dust Removal: Use a duster to remove dust and then use a vacuum cleaner for a comprehensive cleaning. For mesh-style chairs, pat the seat surface to make the dust fall off. Pay attention to absorbing crumbs on sponge cushions.
  2. Wiping and Cleaning: Select a cleaning agent according to the chair material. Check the care label to determine the type and test it in an inconspicuous place before use. For mesh-style chairs, use a damp cleaning cloth dipped in a neutral cleaning solution to wipe. For leather-style chairs, PU leather can be wiped directly with a damp cleaning cloth, and genuine leather should be wiped gently with a slightly damp cleaning cloth.
  3. Removing Residues and Drying: Wipe the armrests and chair legs with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains, clean them with a diluted solution of water and dishwashing soap. For mesh-style chairs, use a clean damp cloth to wipe off the cleaning solution foam and air-dry naturally or use a hairdryer on a low-temperature setting to dry. For washable chairs, use a clean damp cloth to wipe off the soap residues, dry with a dry cloth, and air-dry naturally in a well-ventilated area or use a hairdryer to speed up the drying process.

Removing Stains

Test with rubbing alcohol in an inconspicuous place and then gently pat the stains. Wipe off the residues with a damp cloth and air-dry naturally. Do not use on acrylic fiber decorative fabrics. For stains on genuine leather, contact a professional leather care agency for treatment. Do not use water, alcohol, or chemical solvents without authorization.

General Precautions

Perform basic cleaning once a month and adjust the frequency according to the environment. Prefer soft tools such as soft-bristled brushes and microfiber cloths. After cleaning, ventilate and dry the chair and avoid direct sunlight. For leather seat surfaces, use a special leather care agent every 3 - 6 months for maintenance. Avoid long-term compression of mesh-style chairs.
