Cleaning Office Chair Surface

Admin October 19, 2026

You can refer to the following methods for cleaning the surface of an office chair, selecting appropriate steps based on the material:

1. Comprehensive Vacuuming Use a vacuum cleaner equipped with a soft-bristle brush attachment to clean the entire office chair, focusing on surface dust, fabric crevices, and debris at the connection between the chair back and seat cushion. For mesh materials, adjust the vacuum cleaner's power to medium-low to prevent mesh deformation; for leather or faux leather materials, use a soft brush for gentle operation to avoid scratching the surface. Vacuum along the fabric texture or mesh direction to ensure thorough dust removal.

2. Targeted Cleaner Treatment

  • Mesh Office Chairs: Dilute a neutral cleaner in a 1:10 ratio and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray evenly over the stained areas and let it sit for 3-5 minutes to allow the stains to decompose. Avoid using strong acid or alkaline cleaners to prevent the mesh fibers from becoming brittle.
  • Fabric Office Chairs: For stubborn stains (such as coffee or oil stains), first apply a pre-treatment agent locally, cover with plastic wrap, and let it sit for 10 minutes before spraying with the diluted cleaner.
  • Leather Office Chairs: Select a dedicated leather cleaner, dip a sponge into it, and wipe in a circular motion, focusing on areas prone to dust accumulation such as armrests and the edges of the chair back.

3. Deep Cleaning and Extraction For mesh or fabric materials, use a steam cleaner (with steam temperature controlled between 60-80ยฐC) to disinfect the chair surface and soften deep-seated dirt; then switch to a high-temperature washing machine (with water temperature โ‰ค 50ยฐC) for extraction. Repeat 2-3 times to ensure thorough removal of cleaner residue. Maintain a uniform moving speed of the equipment during operation to avoid excessive wetting of local areas, which could cause chair surface deformation.

4. Drying and Maintenance After cleaning, use a water absorber or a clean towel to absorb moisture from the chair surface. For leather office chairs, use a dry cloth to wipe repeatedly until no water marks remain. Place the chair in a well-ventilated area to dry naturally, avoiding direct sunlight or using a hairdryer to prevent material aging. After drying, apply a dedicated leather conditioner to the leather surface, or spray an anti-static spray on fabric or mesh materials to extend their lifespan.

5. Wiping Order and Tool Selection When cleaning, follow the principle of 'top to bottom': first clean the top of the chair back โ†’ the center of the seat cushion โ†’ the inner and outer sides of the armrests โ†’ the chair legs and bottom. The cloth should be made of microfiber material, kept slightly damp (no water droplets after squeezing), and washed after wiping every 1 square meter to prevent cross-contamination. For metal chair legs, use a cotton cloth dipped in a small amount of white vinegar to wipe and remove oxidation marks.
