Clean Office Chair Wheels

Admin October 17, 2026

Cleaning office chair wheels can be carried out in the following steps, which are divided into three parts: dealing with hair entanglement, cleaning wheel dirt, and subsequent maintenance:

I. Dealing with Hair Entanglement

  1. Basic Tool Cleaning: Use small scissors to directly trim the tangled hair, but this is time-consuming; or bend a paperclip into a hook, insert it along the wheel axle gap, and hook out the surface hair. If the floor is damp, rolling the chair can make it stick to some floating hair.
  2. Deep Disassembly Cleaning: If the hair is tightly entangled, use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry open the wheel cover, leave a 3-4mm gap, insert a box cutter to scrape and cut the hair at an angle, and then use tweezers to pick out the debris; or directly pull the wheel straight up (most are snap-fit designs), clean it, and then gently tap the slot to reset it.

II. Cleaning Wheel Dirt

  1. Non-Disassembly Cleaning Method: Soak a used face towel, let it air dry partially, wrap it around the wheel with the textured side out and secure it with a rubber band. Move the chair back and forth to transfer the dirt to the face towel. Repeat the operation until clean, and then wipe the floor.
  2. Disassembly Deep Cleaning:
    • Disassemble the Wheels: Turn the chair upside down, gently pull out the wheels by hand (snap-fit design). If they are stuck, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth under it to pry open the snap-fit edge and remove them.
    • Clean Debris: Use tweezers to pick out hair and fibers from the gaps, operating in the direction of rotation to avoid entanglement; use an old toothbrush dipped in neutral detergent to gently brush the surface and bearing gaps to remove dust and oil stains; rinse with clean water (avoid getting water into the bearings), dry with a dry cloth, and air dry for 10 minutes.

III. Subsequent Maintenance

  1. Lubrication Maintenance: Drop 1-2 drops of special lubricating oil for office equipment (avoid using cooking oil) at the bearings, rotate the wheels to evenly distribute the oil, and reduce friction.
  2. Installation and Testing: Align the wheels with the bracket snaps and push them in until you hear a "click" to confirm they are securely installed; turn the chair upright and push it to test the smoothness. If it is stuck, check for residual debris.
  3. Daily Prevention: Spend 5 minutes cleaning the wheels every month, or lay a small floor mat at the workstation to reduce hair and dust from getting into the wheel axles, extending their service life.

Precautions: Avoid using strong alkaline cleaners during cleaning to prevent corrosion of the wheel materials; choose a special type of lubricating oil to prevent dust adsorption and secondary pollution.
