Clean Office Chair Wheels
Admin October 11, 2026
Cleaning office chair wheels can be done following these steps:

Handling Hair Entanglement
- Simple Tool Cleaning: For hair entangled on the surface, turn the chair upside down, bend a paper clip into a small hook, and insert it along the gap of the wheel axle to easily hook out the hair. If the floor is still wet after mopping, roll the chair back and forth a couple of times, and the loose hair and debris stuck on the wheels will be picked up by the floor.
- Deep Cleaning Method: If the hair is tightly entangled, use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry open the wheel cover, leaving a 3 - 4mm gap. Insert a paper knife diagonally into the gap to cut the hair, and then use tweezers to pick out the broken hair. If you are skilled, you can directly grab the base of the wheel and pull it straight up. Most office chair wheels are designed with snap-fit mechanisms and can be easily removed. After cleaning, tap the slot a couple of times to reinstall the wheel.
Cleaning Wheel Dirt
- Simple Wiping Method: After dealing with the hair, prepare a used face towel, wet it and let it air-dry slightly. Use the textured side of the towel to wrap around the wheels and secure it with a rubber band. Sit on the chair and move it back and forth. The dirt on the wheels will transfer to the face towel. Repeat this process a few times to clean the wheels thoroughly, and then wipe the floor with a cloth.
- Disassembly Cleaning Method:
- Disassembling the Wheels: Turn the office chair upside down (with the seat facing down, taking care to protect the seat fabric). Hold the wheel bracket with your hand and gently pull out the wheels (most are designed with snap-fit mechanisms and do not require tools). If they are stuck tightly, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth underneath to gently pry open the edge of the snap-fit mechanism. After removing the wheels, check each one for entangled hair and debris.
- Removing Debris: Use tweezers to pull out long hair strands and carpet fibers from the gaps of the wheels in the direction of rotation to prevent further entanglement. Dip an old toothbrush in a small amount of neutral detergent and gently scrub the surface of the wheels and the gaps in the bearings to remove dust and grease. Finally, rinse the wheels with water (avoid getting water into the bearings), dry them with a dry cloth, and let them air-dry in a well-ventilated place for 10 minutes.
- Lubricating and Reinstalling: After the wheels are dry,ๆปด (Note: This Chinese character should be removed as it seems to be an error; the correct action is described in English below) 1 - 2 drops of office equipment special lubricating oil on the bearings. Rotate the wheels by hand to distribute the lubricating oil evenly. Align the wheels with the snap-fit mechanism on the bracket and gently push them in until you hear a "click" sound to confirm they are securely installed. Finally, turn the office chair back upright and push it to test if the wheels roll smoothly. If there is still stuttering, check for any remaining debris.
Subsequent Protection
- You can stick invisible tape on the wheels. The tape should be of an appropriate width and have moderate stickiness. When you peel it off, there will be almost no sticky residue on the wheels. Do not stick it too flat; a slightly wrinkled appearance can prevent the wheels from being too slippery, making it easier to replace and reducing the frequency of cleaning.
- It is best to spend 5 minutes cleaning the chair wheels every month or lay a small floor mat in the area where the office chair is usually placed to reduce the amount of hair and dust getting into the wheel axles.
