Child Office Chair Height

Admin October 11, 2026

The height of a child's office chair should be adjusted according to the child's height. The following standards and principles can be referred to:

I. Corresponding Standards for Height and Chair Height Different height ranges correspond to specific chair height recommendations, as follows:

  • Height not exceeding 119 cm: Recommended chair height of 27 cm;
  • Height between 113 and 127 cm: Recommended chair height of 29 cm;
  • Height between 120 and 134 cm: Recommended chair height of 30 cm;
  • Height between 128 and 142 cm: Recommended chair height of 32 cm;
  • Height between 135 and 149 cm: Recommended chair height of 34 cm;
  • Height between 143 and 157 cm: Recommended chair height of 36 cm;
  • Height between 150 and 164 cm: Recommended chair height of 38 cm;
  • Height between 158 and 172 cm: Recommended chair height of 40 cm;
  • Height between 165 and 179 cm: Recommended chair height of 42 cm;
  • Height not less than 180 cm: Recommended chair height of 46 cm.

It should be noted that preschool children's chairs are usually set in six models, with a height range of 200-340 mm (i.e., 20-34 cm), suitable for the basic needs of young children. If a child's height is at the boundary between two ranges, adjustments should be made based on the actual sitting posture.

II. Adjustment Principles When Height Spans Ranges When a child's height is close to the threshold between two ranges, sitting comfort should be the core standard:

  1. Upright Back: After sitting down, the child's back should naturally fit against the chair back, avoiding bending forward or leaning backward;
  2. Vertical Legs: The thighs and upper body should form a 90-degree angle, while the thighs and calves should also remain vertical, ensuring that the feet are flat on the ground;
  3. Elbow Position: When the upper arm hangs naturally, the elbows should be located 3-4 cm below the desktop, avoiding arm suspension or excessive elevation.

By adjusting the chair height to maintain a sitting posture of 'three verticals and one reasonable height', spinal pressure can be effectively reduced, preventing myopia and hunchback.

III. Handling Special Cases If a child's height differs significantly from the standard ranges (e.g., due to rapid or slow development), it is recommended to prioritize choosing an office chair with adjustable height. Such chairs are usually equipped with gas rods or mechanical lifting devices, allowing flexible adjustments according to the child's growth stage and avoiding frequent furniture replacements. Additionally, parents should regularly check the child's sitting posture to ensure that the chair height matches the desktop height, creating a scientific reading and writing environment.
