Charcoal Pack for Office Chairs

Admin October 19, 2026

Charcoal packs can be used near office chairs to absorb harmful gases, but attention should be paid to issues such as adsorption saturation, product selection, and environmental humidity during use.

  1. Adsorption Principle and Suitable Scenarios of Charcoal Packs
Charcoal packs, especially activated charcoal packs, absorb harmful gases in the air, such as formaldehyde and benzene compounds, through their porous structures. Newly purchased office desks and chairs may release such volatile organic compounds, and charcoal packs can serve as an auxiliary means to reduce their concentration. For example, placing a charcoal pack beside an office chair can absorb pollutants in the local air, but it should be noted that its range of action is limited, and comprehensive treatment measures such as ventilation should be combined.

  2. Adsorption Saturation and Replacement Cycle
The adsorption capacity of charcoal packs gradually becomes saturated over time, and long-term non-replacement may lead to the re-release of absorbed harmful gases. It is recommended to replace the charcoal pack every 1 to 3 months, and the specific cycle should be adjusted according to the concentration of environmental pollutants, the quality of the charcoal pack, and the usage area. If there is a noticeable odor beside the office chair or if the charcoal pack surface appears damp or caked, it should be replaced in advance.

  3. Risks of Inferior Products and Selection Criteria
Some inferior charcoal packs may use recycled charcoal or add chemical substances, which not only have poor adsorption effects but may also release impurities or cause secondary pollution. When selecting, priority should be given to purchasing activated charcoal packs produced by regular manufacturers, and product inspection reports should be checked to confirm that their iodine adsorption value (an indicator measuring adsorption capacity) meets the standard (usually โ‰ฅ800mg/g). Avoid purchasing โ€œthree-noโ€ products without brands or inspection reports.

  4. Impact of Environmental Humidity on Usage Effect
Charcoal packs are prone to absorbing water in humid environments, causing their pores to be occupied by moisture and thus reducing their adsorption capacity for harmful gases. In addition, high-humidity environments may breed mold, further polluting the air. When using charcoal packs, the office area should be kept dry, and they should be avoided being placed near water sources or in high-humidity locations (such as beside humidifiers). If the environmental humidity is high for a long time, consider using a dehumidifier or choosing moisture-proof charcoal packs.

  5. Comprehensive Treatment Suggestions
Charcoal packs can only serve as an auxiliary means. To treat the odor of new office desks and chairs, a โ€œcombination of internal and external measuresโ€ is required: internally, accelerate the release of harmful substances through heating or ventilation; externally, discharge pollutants through continuous strong ventilation (such as opening windows or using a fresh air system). After 3 to 6 months of comprehensive treatment, the concentration of indoor pollutants can usually be reduced to a safe level. If the odor persists or symptoms such as dizziness or irritation occur, the air quality should be tested in a timely manner and further measures should be taken.
