Office Chair Rust Prevention
Admin October 19, 2026
Rust prevention for office chairs can be achieved through various methods, including surface treatment, material selection, and daily maintenance.

1. Surface Treatment Processes
- Rust-preventive spray painting: By spraying synthetic resin materials onto the metal surface, a dense hardened film is formed to isolate oxygen and moisture. Attention should be paid to the uniformity of spraying to avoid local thinness that could lead to rust penetration.
- Paint brushing: Paint should be applied in layers, with each layer allowed to dry before the next is applied, ensuring the paint film thickness meets standards. High-quality paint contains rust-preventive additives that can extend the protection cycle, but regular inspection and touch-up painting are required.
- Grease application: Suitable for friction parts such as mechanical joints, grease with strong adhesion (such as lithium-based grease) is used to form a protective film, which needs to be replenished every 3-6 months to maintain effectiveness.
- Rust-preventive electroplating processes: Such as chrome plating and zinc plating, generate a dense oxide layer on the metal surface through electrolysis. For example, the Excellence Series C01 office chair uses electroplated chair legs, significantly improving corrosion resistance, but care should be taken to avoid scratching the plating.
- Electrostatic powder coating/spraying: Using the principle of electrostatic adsorption, powder coatings are uniformly attached to the surface and then cured at high temperatures to form a wear-resistant layer, suitable for humid environments, but ensuring complete coverage of corners and edges with powder is necessary.
2. Material Selection
- Stainless steel: For humid or outdoor environments, 304 stainless steel (containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel) is preferred due to its superior corrosion resistance compared to 201 stainless steel. If budget is limited, ordinary steel can be galvanized to protect the base material through sacrificial anodic protection by the zinc layer.
- Aluminum alloy: Lightweight and with a natural oxide film, it is suitable for coastal areas with high salt spray, but contact with strong acids and alkalis should be avoided.
3. Daily Maintenance
- Environmental control: Maintain indoor humidity below 60% and avoid direct sunlight that can cause coating aging. During the rainy season, a dehumidifier can be used to reduce air humidity.
- Rust removal treatment: When rust is detected, sandpaper should be used to grind until the original metal color is exposed, followed by application of rust-preventive paint or grease. If rusting is severe, replacement of the part is recommended.
- Use of protective covers: Install silicone or rubber covers on easily worn parts such as chair legs and armrests to reduce direct contact between metal and the ground/table surface, while also preventing scratches to the surface coating.
4. Special Scenario Treatments
- Outdoor office chairs: Full stainless steel or aluminum alloy materials should be selected, and the rusting condition of connecting parts (such as screws) should be regularly inspected, with replacement to stainless steel fittings if necessary.
- Coastal areas: Avoid using electroplated products and prioritize powder coating or spraying. Additionally, wipe off salt deposits with a dry cloth every month.
