Office Chair Disassembly Guide
Admin October 11, 2026
The disassembly of an office chair should be carried out step by step, with attention to safety precautions. The specific process is as follows:

I. Preparation Before Disassembly
- Tool Preparation: Depending on the connection method of the components, prepare screwdrivers (Phillips/flathead), a rubber mallet, soft cloth, and a flathead screwdriver (for prying open wheel clips).
- Environmental Safety: Choose a flat, stable surface for operation to prevent accidental ejection of chair legs or gas cylinders, which could cause injury.
II. Disassembly Steps
Backrest Separation
- Locate the connection point between the backrest and the seat (usually at the rear or sides of the seat). Use the appropriate screwdriver to loosen the fixing screws.
- If the screws are rusted or stuck, apply a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) to aid in disassembly. Avoid forcing the screws to prevent stripping.
Base Disassembly
- Raise the gas cylinder to its highest position to ensure the connection between the base and the seat is loose.
- Hold the seat firmly with one hand and press the height adjustment lever (usually located on the right side under the seat) with the other hand while shaking the base left and right until it separates from the seat.
- Note: If the base is stuck, repeat pressing the lever and increase the shaking amplitude. Avoid direct hammering to prevent damage to the gas cylinder.
Gas Cylinder Disassembly
- Invert the chair legs (wheels facing up) to expose the bottom of the gas cylinder.
- Gently tap the connection between the gas cylinder and the chair legs with a rubber mallet, or place a piece of wood underneath and tap with a hammer to loosen and remove it using vibration.
- Key Tip: The gas cylinder contains high-pressure gas. Wear safety goggles during disassembly to prevent parts from ejecting and injuring your eyes.
Wheel Disassembly
- Most wheels are designed with clips. Simply grasp the wheel bracket with your hand and pull it outward to remove it.
- If the wheel is stuck, use a flathead screwdriver with a soft cloth underneath to gently pry open the clip edge (avoid scratching the metal bracket) while pulling the wheel outward.
III. Precautions
- Safety Precautions: When disassembling the gas rod and chair legs, which may be rusted or stuck due to long-term use, apply force slowly to prevent sudden breakage or ejection.
- Component Protection: When disassembling the wheels, the soft cloth prevents the screwdriver from scratching the bracket surface. If you need to retain the components, it is recommended to store them in categories according to the disassembly order.
- Special Structures: Some office chairs (such as those with adjustable armrests) may involve additional screws or springs. Refer to the instruction manual or observe the connection method before proceeding with the operation.
By following standardized procedures, you can efficiently complete the disassembly of an office chair while reducing the risk of component damage.
