Central Enterprises Discuss Unqualified Office Chairs

Admin October 08, 2026

CCTV once exposed that unqualified office chairs have multiple issues, with a relatively high non-compliance rate and numerous safety risks.

I. Non-compliance Rate Situation The State Administration for Market Regulation has conducted two inspections of office chairs. In one inspection, 90 batches of products from 90 enterprises in 11 provinces and cities were inspected, and 21 batches were found to be non-compliant, with a non-compliance rate of 23.3%. In another inspection, 101 batches of office chair products produced by 101 enterprises nationwide were inspected, and 15 batches were found to be non-compliant, with a non-compliance discovery rate of 14.9%. This indicates that the quality of some office chairs on the market is concerning, with a certain proportion of non-compliant products.

II. Non-compliant Items

  1. Unstable Stability: Stability non-compliance was a prominent issue in both inspections. In the second inspection, 7 batches of products had stability issues. Stability is an important performance indicator for office chairs. Office chairs with poor stability are prone to tipping over during use, posing a risk of falls and injuries to users and seriously affecting safety.
  2. Non-compliant Caster Wear Resistance: Five batches of products failed the caster wear resistance test. Casters are key components for the mobility of office chairs. Non-compliant caster wear resistance can lead to easy damage of the casters during use, resulting in caster detachment. This not only affects the normal use of the office chair but may also cause users to lose their balance and fall due to sudden caster detachment.
  3. Non-compliant Formaldehyde Emission: Four batches of products had issues with formaldehyde emission. Formaldehyde is a harmful gas, and long-term exposure can cause harm to human health, such as irritating the respiratory tract and eyes, and may even trigger serious diseases like cancer. Non-compliant formaldehyde emission in office chairs can cause users to inhale formaldehyde for extended periods in the office environment, posing a potential threat to their health.

III. Safety Risks Unqualified office chairs also pose safety risks such as explosion risks and base fractures. Once these risks occur, they will directly endanger the personal safety of users and cause serious consequences. Therefore, when purchasing office chairs, consumers should choose products from regular channels with quality guarantees to avoid the safety hazards associated with buying unqualified office chairs.
